Finally got the stump grindings from the big last ash in the back yard all hauled away and it's ready for topsoil and then grass seed. It took 5 yard carts full. That would be 50 cubic feet.

It might get down to freezing Tuesday, so I'll wait to spread the seed until that happens.

I also fixed the leaning mailbox. I was able to reuse the existing 4x4 stub that goes inside the square PVC mailbox post. I just turned it upside down and drilled a new hole for the angle iron that sticks up from the ground.
It will be solid for a number of years again.

I also stacked the rest of my splits I had, into the shed. That's 3 rows full of 5 I have so far for 2023-24. I'll need 2 more cords hopefully before summer. I'll probably look for ash, or box elder, pine, or other quick drying SS wood

    No firewood work today.
I had to cut my rafters back 1 1/2” on my tractor lean to shed in prep for gutters getting installed. Gettin all three buildings done.
Then worked on prepping the garden for planting. I didn’t get a picture of that but my supervisor kept a close eye on me.
She turns 1 year old this week.

In a couple hours I'm off work until Monday. Going to work on the log pile, hunt turkeys, go to baseball/softball games, sit by the fire pit, and do whatever the heck else I feel like doing for the next five days.

    Enjoy the time off.

I invited a couple to hunt here on opening day and they both got birds.

I usually do both every day. Sometimes the sleeping just doesn't happen though.

We had some pretty good rains overnight, today it changes from rain to snow and then back to rain. The weather report I saw called for 1-3 inches of snow for elevations of 1500 feet or above, we're between 900 and 1000.

Got 2.5 cord of wood CSS the past couple of days. Back over 2 years supply but not quite 3 yet. There's been talk of taking a day and running triaxle loads of untreated RR tie cutoffs next month so I'm holding off on any other wood.

Had some company for the walk this morning.

The red fox was on the road once I got out of my driveway. Looked each other over for a few seconds and then it began trotting right towards me from about 200' away. As it neared, it did change sides of the blacktop and went past me, then turned down the driveway. I made a few sounds like the ones where you would be calling a dog quietly or coaching a horse and that little bugger stopped, looked and responded by returning to me within 5-6'!

I began walking again, and it actually followed along briefly....but soon got bored and turned around and went back down my driveway.

There was also a beaver taking a rest along the shoreline where the lake ice is melting. It had no interest in being social. Then, there was also a mink on the edge of the retreating ice....about 20' from the shore.

    Neat.

Went turkey hunting on a new spot. No turkeys there. Came home with two catfish, mushrooms, and a load of firewood though. Real redneck stuff.
