Same here. Not much over 24" dbh here in the Interior. Most is smaller. And I don't have the iron to handle bigger logs.
The main reason I would like a carriage mill is nostalgia I suppose. Plus, they are a bit less labor. As long as I can round up a green chain puller.

 

are you so nostalgic as to use a 2 person pit saw? I kid, I kid. People sure worked hard in those days, most of us now can't wrap our minds around it. Circle mills definitely have their advantages, the swing blade ones are interesting too.

I think it's best to go with a bandsaw mill for me, a sufficiently large circular blade costs a lot of money, although they last longer, (I've often said most people would rather see 100 bucks go 12 times than 1,000 go once, even though the payments add up to 200 bucks more, but I digress)

Even a 14" capacity would be plenty for me, a lot of our logs are a foot or smaller, a fair amount even grown to full height but so thin they're only good for firewood that you don't have to split. The trees on my own property I'm looking to cut aren't big, and if I harvest from the forest I can only take what fits in my car. As many people have large mills and access to logs 3 feet thick, going from their estimates of blade longevity, a blade should last through a good few small logs. I would also have no need for a big cant hook, ramps, or anything like that. The logs would be quite manageable by hand.

I don't know if any of you folks have watched essential craftsman on YouTube, but he has a pretty neat video of a sawmill he built when he was a much younger man, a highly productive circular mill with a massive blade.

 

Ice must be think enough for snomos and ice fisherman; we heard some riding out and then ice augers running this morning.

 

Hope so.. Never wanted to be the first one on the ice..

Hey, other than about 2 weeks in Jan/Feb I'm starting to think we could grow bananas down here now!

theres a chance of snow on Christmas day here. Not sure about up your way. Been a long time since the last Christmas snow that I can remember. Spent about 20 hours in the plow truck that year.

 

Not saying it will snow on Christmas BUT there will be snow on the ground at Christmas

Had Christmas with my family today. I'm exhausted.

 

I expect a white christmas whether it snows any more or not. Don't have a heck of a lot right now, 3-4" of pakced fairly wet snow (it was before it froze last night anyway). Expected temps won't support a melt off, but if I get enough sun there could be a select few areas that clear off. The weather guessers are saying another storm for Christmas, but that can change between now and then.
