Oh yeah, good days and bad but heat bothers him.. yesterday was hot til thunderstorms went thru.
He spent 06-08 caring for mom until she passed from cancer.. forgot about himself..

But hey I look a lot like him. He joked, I use to see you in the mirror now I see an old fart..

Yesterday, La Crosse, WI got 5.59 inches of rain. It is raining again today and water is flowing in the ditches again. With all the rain we have had over the past week, it doesn't take much more to get the water moving. Ground can't absorb much more.

I seem to recall that it was a pretty dry spring in the Midwest there. Glad things are adequately hydrated finally.

Parts of the area have been really dry. Parts of Minnesota have had it worse than us with being dry. In the county I live in, it depends on how much sand you have on your land versus clay. My lawn has stayed green this summer but others have turned brown just because of different soils. Going into winter with a good amount of soil moisture will be good for next spring planting season for the farmers.

We took a boat tour out of Bay Bulls, NL this morning. Was a pretty good run, got to see some whales, which are common in my area but still nice nonetheless. But the bird life was what I was interested in. Turrs, which I've seen but never so many at once or so close. And puffins, the official bird of NL but only commonly sighted in a few select areas a few hours drive from each other. We also had the opportunity to release some juvenile puffins back to the wild, which were brought on the boat from a local rescue group.

Happy birthday to him, indeed it is. Very hard seeing a loved one suffering diseases like that.

We got 2.87" of rain supposedly this am as of midnight, with what appears to be 8" of rain in the last week. Looking at the weather service site. Considering that we didn't get a drop of rain before yesterday for weeks before that, that means we got all that 8" between yesterday afternoon/ evening though this early am, that's pretty crazy. We needed it, and look to still be at a deficit seeing we were 10" down from normal in rainfall. We had slight ponding in the front and back yard this am. We spent the day on the lake, and got off the water right before a storm hit at the lake we go to.

Probably too embarrassed to tell the whole story. Especially as he was informed that he should shut it down.

My sister did that type scenario with my parents Dodge Caravan, water pump went, temp and engine lights came on, she figured it would last another 7 miles.. died a bit less than a mile from home..

    "It just stopped running"
    :picard:

When I picked her up, you could smell that the engine was toast.

I always tell my wife...a yellow lite on the dash means something needs checked soon. A red light on the dash means pull over and check it NOW...and shut the engine off until you figure out what that red lite is for! A couple minutes of idling with no oil pressure is easily enough to toast things...

Managed to finish the 15' row I had been working on in the garden and weeded another 15' row. Got piles of wood chips dumped in the garden. Now need to spread them.
I had the tree service company out to do some tree trimming and asked them if they would dump the chips out back. I now have wood chips for the garden. I looks like their bin wasn't empty. There was mold on the chips. Came back to the house and got a mask. Not like I didn't have one laying around  .
I pruned the tomatoes. Anything growing out side the cages and into the row got pruned. Have a lot of green tomatoes for the wife. I don't like them. I will probably can some of them along with some spaghetti sauce tomorrow.
