That area, the Eastport Peninsula, is a beautiful place. I also really like Charlottetown, a half hours drive away, a tiny community enclaved by a 154 square mile national park (as well as the ocean along its coast).

    Just outside Sandringham

Paid the June electric bill; $41.67. I'll be interested in how much it will be through the summer with the increased rates for the rest of the summer.

On top of this I saw an article where the MI AG will fight against the new price increase the electric company has applied for. It's about time someone stepped up to the plate on all these increases.

We have two families in my house. The electric bill is usually $200-300 per month except in the depths of winter with $300+ Those bills are not uncommon in this area. The power company has just asked for a double digit increase. Company is owned by overseas investors. They have an monopoly. Most of the north east is the same way.

I remember the time only commercial places had bills that high.

The worse part is planning for this when thinking of retirement. We lived modestly and selected good plans for retirement income. Good thing we did. I don't know what I would be living on now if we had not. I still have a low interest small mortgage to pay, but no CC debt or car payments. I am not opposed to those type of debts, it is just that they are blood suckers.

Wow, those are some nasty electric bills already, and they want more...:picard:thankful for our community owned generation plant! Rarely a bill over $100 for us...haven't had one over $80 in some time now.
CC and car payments eat up a good part of many peoples budgets...I'm a huge fan of the Dave Ramsey plan...a little hard work and belt tightening early on can pay huge dividends later on! We just "graduated" from Dave Ramsey school this week...no more payments...none!
It's a special kind of "independence day" here... feeling blessed and grateful!

Last night we visited friends and it was a heavy downpour when we left. As we were driving, we saw a big blue flash from behind us, not like lightning. I saw sparks falling from a transformer behind us maybe a 1/2 mile away where we just passed.

The Mrs. called the local pd to report the arcing. The pd put her on hold as 911 calls were coming in for the same location. Turns out a truck missed the corner in the heavy rain and left the road and snapped the pole. It landed on its side and crossed the road we just traveled moments before. We were right where the first responders are standing on the left, making left turn. Could have been a pretty serious collision. We are thankful. Not my pic, but one from social media.

Wow Jon. How fast was this guy moving? Overnight I woke up and I can attest that it poured. Didn’t start here until like 3am.

Not sure on the speed. More than he should have for the conditions. Driver was ok from reports.

We are about the same, I try to pay $250 year round (including summer when our bill goes down).
We have a $30 "facility charge" every month for the privilege...

We also have a facility charge of just pennies over a dollar a day. Our electric bill is around 100 to 125 most months except for the summer months when AD use is high. Bill then get close to 200. Glad it only a couple months for those size bills.

Yeah, life is much better when you have no payments. I shudder at folks and what they pay for so many things. Once again Thoreau was right saying about people being poor most of their lives because they think they have to have a home like others. Consider what is a necessity And things are more easily gotten than gotten rid of.

Oh yes, for most folks the payments keep coming and the bank accounts don't grow,

Home, car, clothes, phone, etc, etc, etc...a little delayed gratification and focus (on the right things) pays huge dividends!

The facility charge is to cover the fixed costs of providing electricity. Whether you use 100kwh or 1000kwh the cost to get it to your place is the same. They still have to provide and maintain lines to get it to you. They still have to provide transformers. Maintaining right of ways is another cost totally independent of how much electricity you use.

If that's the same as our "customer charge" , I thought our customer charge of $7 per month was steep.
WE have the actual electricity charge and then the cost of delivery charges as well.
$43.93 for 32 days which consumed 150 kwh.
We used to try to keep the bill under $20 a month.
