Happy Birthday Jack Straw! We made it through this two day wind event without losing power. Someone hit a pole up the street last night and cut power, but it was restored by 11 pm. We are pretty well prepared and normally keep flashlights nearby. My MS170 has been sluggish on the trigger lately. I took it apart and cleaned out caked sawdust. Pulled the muffler and cleaned a little carbon on the spark screen. There was some vine fiber stringy mess at the sprocket. Still ran sluggish. Pulled the air filter and that was it. Glad it was an easy fix. Spent a half day in the attic framing in the bedroom. Feet up for a while.
Last evening, "The Horse Soldiers" (John Wayne movie) was on and I watched a fair amount of it. This is a still from one scene about an hour before it ended (I think) that I'd like to draw attention to. The movie was made in 1959. The venting on the wood stove between John Wayne and Constance Towers is a sight to behold! It is an older style heat reclaimer/creosote catcher! Now then, just why wasn't I paying attention to the movie instead of checking out the wood stove in the background? I catch myself doing this often....
X2! Have a good one Jack Straw Edit- it’s weird that even at 12:19am Tuesday it is still your birthday on the main page... awesome.
This is one of the goofs from the movie, did you notice it? When Marlowe is talking to Hanna at the bar, the stove behind them has a long red scarf draped around it. The scene cuts away and back very briefly, only a second, but when it does cut back the scarf is gone from the stove. The Horse Soldiers (1959) - Goofs - IMDb
Last night I went out on the deck to check the new head lamp I got. I saw eyeshine about 15 ft away just behind a tree at ground level. I was looking at it for at least a minute and it was moving slightly. Finally it slowly stood up and was a nice bedded down fork-horn buck. Could have even been a six, but I quickly turned and went back inside, but it didn’t look startled in the least. This is the second bedded deer I’ve had around the house in a month. The other was a deer that must have jumped over the fenced in front yard and was sleeping by the front door. It was five in the morning when the dog wanted to go out and the deer got scared half to death and bounded the fence as the dog ran out. I only saw it flag as it went over the fence. I’m thinking there might be coyote around again because they haven’t slept close to the house in a number of years, and we are in a residential area.
My neighbor had a big silver maple tree taken down. Everything cut up into firewood lengths, some of it quartered already. Hauled home 4 loads on my lunch break. Not the best stuff, but the boiler will eat it and you can't beat free heat and hot water for 3-4 months with under an hour's worth of work.
This is what I was getting at. In my experience, a keyboard rarely just fails. It's usually a spilled drink or some other tragic demise that does them in.
What does work on tiles to change the color of them is the epoxy to cover them. I epoxied my half bathroom's tiles from harvest gold to white with the tub and tile epoxy. That stuff isn't going anywhere. It's a great option of you like the tile, just not the color. My buddy that recommended it said it works great on tubs too. It works great, but it's stinky as all get out. Respirator required, and turn on the bathroom fan. It stinks for days, so I would not use it in winter unless you can ventilate extremely well.
I've seen deer bedded down right next to the foundation (basement) of a house on the south side once the melt leaves enough bare ground for them. The solar gain on that side and also being pressed onto the concrete of the foundation must be similar to a dog laying in front of a fire. No need to make 'em move as they deserve a respite.
