How about sinking a second post, not as deep, along side of the first and then taking threaded rod to bolt the two together. Not sure what your make up gap is, but the double post side could be opposite the hinge side.

[IMG] Here is the pic again. As you can see it is a pretty good size gap. LOL But that is okay. The gate will be up off the ground (at finish grade) a good foot. Some dirt will be brought in and around to the top of the concrete on the right hand side tube. Crushed stone will eventually be placed over the current gravel throughout the road and level with that dirt. The gate will be mounted to the new 4x6 on the left hand side. I will then build a small, very solid frame, from 4x4 P.T. that will reach out to the gate. Then I will chain the gate to that. I will probably even have some steel plate on the back side to secure the pieces of wood together. Then I will eventually be installing some fencing on both sides all along the property on the road side. Probably will be three strand barbed wire fence. But not sure on that just yet. May also be 4' high 4x2 box wire fence. I have 5' high around my back yard for dogs and kids.

Lag bolt a short piece of the same size PT to the inside of both posts. Don't need to bury it much...just enough that it looks like it isn't tacked on as an afterthought. Make the inside post (the one lagged on) 1/4 -1/3 shorter. Double post gate. Then your hinges and latch should take care of the rest of the gap.

I like that idea. Keep the gate from dragging. But I have some material already that I am going to use so I don't have to spend any money. I am trying to use anything I have already to try to save some dough! LOL

Do you see how the post are 8' above the ground. They are both 4x6x12'. I had one older one, and bought one newer one. Well the one on the right hand side will be cut off at about 5'. (Where the gate closes and is chained to.) I put the best end of the old one I had in the ground. The one on the left I bought new. I found a nice straight and solid one and that will stay the full height. I will be doing a bolt through the top of that post about a foot down from the top that will have an eye on it. Already have one from something else laying around. I will then run a cable, which I also have some of in the basement of the camp left over from a power line project(LOL), that I will run through the eye and down to the gate at the other end. Probably about two thirds of the way down the gate away from hinge post. Similar to this.

Nice work on the gate. Good idea on making sure the poles were deep enough, makes all the difference when done right
