I know. I did that too. I just finished off a root beer float.

I'll have to do a little more work outside tomorrow to burn that off.

Good memory - VT or NH is the best! I've only had one Canadian and it was pretty good. The one I got from NY, I didn't care for - ended up throwing it out after it sat in my fridge for months - I opened ohter bottles .. My theory is that it has something to do with minerals in the soil differences. Maybe one day I will find a NY syrup from a small operation and see if that is better.

That may be so, but it isn't sold around here - I was surprised to find NY syrup here. I normally buy locally sourced - I can usually find some from farms within 15 miles of my house. But if I am outside my normal area and happen to see syrup, I like to try those too. Scratch that, I will NOT buy any that is made in California

I would strongly encourage supporting local products. Our supermarket honey label...

    Argentina?

We have a beekeeper a 1/4 mile from here. He has a small operation and sets hives in the area. He has an online pay option and porch pick up. Sells candles and honeycomb too. Time to try local!

    Maple syrup covered right here.

I still have honey that I bought from a co-worker at my previous job. His wife keeps bees and they only sell to coworkers and friends - at very reasonable prices. I bought a bunch one year because they were having issues with their hives so I wanted to make sure I had plenty.

Ben's Sugar shack syrup, from Temple, NH, can be bought at the local TSC. I also get a syrup from my town (Hillsboro) at the local Agway.

    LOL
You'd probably have to be very careful with the labelling description.

Pancakes this morning with Cherry syrup. Not local as we don't have orchards here but made in the province.

    Sounds about right.

It also can vary from year to year. I remember back in the 50's I kept track and it did vary; not a huge amount but different. It also takes more sap for a gallon of syrup at the end of the run than at the beginning.

I picked up some fire starters from big box orange today.

    20201114_160634.jpg

    20201114_160650.jpg

48 sticks that can be broken into 4 pieces. So that's almost 200 starter pieces for $11. I think it is a good deal. Lights very easy an really no crumbly mess.

    20201114_153941.jpg

This morning the Mrs helped me getting items put away in the mud room and stored in the basement. It made the job much easier.

I worked on the tin corrugated heat shield from Midwinter, but I needed more screws and ceramic spacers. I cut the sheets with a metal cutting wheel on my cruddy circ saw. I'll finish that job in the morning.

I will echo how high wood prices are now at the box stores. I have a small kitchen table to make in the next few weeks and I'll go with salvaged wood that I have collected. It won't be fancy.

Lots of winter birds at the feeders. Re-filling every day.
