We are now at 9-10" under for rain this year. According to FB memories, this summer is a repeat of 2016 - that year the rains came a a couple of days ago, with a nice 2" liquid precipitation event.
Hmm, for some reason I thought aspen and birch were the same thing, just called by different names in different parts of the country (birch in the NE, Aspen in Midwest). I didn't realize they are actually different.
not too much pressure needed. Besides, I wanted to see how it goes with shoulder season wood. First season using soft wood. White Pine, Blue Cedar and a stick of maple.
Rain would have been nice. Glad y'all didn't get what we had, 10"...washed out roads, flooded some houses.
That could be 130 inches or so of snow ...... We could use 10 inches of rain, just not all at once please .
I could use 20" of rain right now. Took the boat out last night, and I had to hop down off the dock to where there would normally be 18" of water to push the boat to get it moving. It was completely beached in the sand. I moved it down to a neighbors dock that already pulled his for the winter, and its "better" the bow is sitting, but at least the stern is floating again. First fire of the year in the stove right now too, oak pallet scraps. I wouldnt have had to, but the oldest kid slept with her windows open last night, and left her door open. House was a bit chilly this morning.
Darn squirrels are testing my patients. Opened my garage door went it for my phone and glasses. Maybe 1 minute tops.
Relatives of your squirrels dropped a bunch of the green and black crap from black walnuts onto my truck while putting the steel roof on that garage we re roofed. it didn't fly off on the way home. So a wash is needed this week. Good thing the temps will be really nice. The first day of Fall is Tuesday.
Much less here. But then, my wife just asked me to get her some more ammo. Winter? It's been several years since we've had much winter so we're due.
Cold snap motivated me to climb the chimney for scrubbing caps and chimney. Standing, stooping and laying up there is a challenge. Probably close to 50’ to reach the basement box.
A friend of mine has a wood boiler up for sale he said I can have for $400, he even has a ton of copper pipe to go with it... At that price I'm tempted to scoop it up and add it to my current hot water baseboard system. My hot water is electric, heater is less than a year old. Whenever I'm home I can keep the boiler fed, and if I'm at work late or I go away for the weekend the oil furnace will run. Between that and my existing wood stove on the first floor, I should be able to cut my oil usage to almost nothing which has always been my goal. Does anyone have a setup like this, and are there any pitfalls I should be looking out for?
Some inventory as MikeInMa would say showed up today. Mrs.warner has a pot roast in the Dutch oven. Beautiful Sunday afternoon here in NH. I spent the morning taking the a/c units out and putting some summer stuff away. Probly have a campfire this evening.
I’m interested in doing the same thing with an indoor boiler. I have pretty much the same set up except my oil boiler heats the hot water.
What kind of boiler? Outside wood boiler or inside? Unless it's a gasification boiler, you'll use a lot more wood than typically. It depends on wood supply, but even then, I would probably take him up on it.
