The concern with (CCA) arsenic is leach-out, same with creosote with railroad ties. You don't have to eat any wood. If you've had kids, you know their propensity for putting contaminated fingers in orifices which would increase their contamination rate over an adult.

good morning. campinspecter is off for another load of firewood and although work is officially over for the summer, I am going in to help out with report cards this morning. then it will be HOLIDAYS for six weeks. I have lots of projects lined up for the summer. I always do and never get 25% of them done. I have to get a picture of my garden. I started harvesting radishes yesterday. they were good from the garden bed but the tub garden was a wash. Too skinny and bolting already. going to pull them and discard them. I might try carrots in there instead.

Supposed to be 93 with a heat index of 102 today. I don't plan on being outside much if I can avoid it.

Right, so you can lick the wood and get some arsenic (if it were still available for consumer use. It's still used commercially, like I believe marine ply and piles) but investing said wood would yield more toxicity, and a child would have to eat a ridiculous amount of wood.

I have no worry about old CCa wood and children. That's me. I also have a young child and am protective of him in ways others find crazy so I can understand the extra concern. If there were a problem with cca you would have all kinds of people my age and older guys who built decks and docks for a living (eating and never washing hands) that were dropping dead.

The new treated wood started out as two or three different blends but I believe that ACQ took over and is still the dominant treatment used, it was 10 years ago I know. I don't keep up on that stuff as much because I'm not on that side of the industry. Those that don't know ACQ stands for (I'm a terrible speller) Amoniacal Copper Quart. Less toxic to vertebrates as I understand it. Again I have no worry about it's toxicity.

I cut a small load of wood yesterday. Temps were in the low 90s. At least I waited till like 430 to cut.

Before the safety police crucify me. No I didn't strap it down. But I was just on the other side of town from my house. My town is 1 mile across. I went no faster than about 15-20mph on the way home. And I only passed 1 car the whole way. IMG_20200705_174158813_HDR.jpg

Come on guys this is real simple, there is a shortage on pressure-treated! In the north east, men were sent home for three months with their wives and children. They could not tell their wives I didn’t have time to finish those projects! It was a heck of a good reason to get out of the house:cool:

No shortage of wood here in SC at the Lowe's I have been too. All my loggers are on quota too, so there is no demand at the Mills. I heard orders were down at the local sawmill here that supplies lots of Lowe's in this area, both with treated and untreated.

If Mills want wood all they have to do is say so. It would be almost no trouble to up production 50% overnight on the logging end. Well the bottle neck would be not enough trucks to deliver all that wood but we could easily deliver much more wood that we do right now. No demand for it around here.

I heard that some of the reason is that trains that delivered the wood are not essential. So means no delivery. Take that for what it is worth.

I'll be looking at Menards and HD this well around me. PT is what I'll be needing. 2x6's mostly.

Maybe up there, trains must be essential down here cause there coming through town just as usual here. I live a half mile from the tracks and hear every train that comes through.

Obviously they weren't creative. My ex-BIL was out of work for 2 years and didn't get any of the sheetrocking or other projects done that had been waiting for him when he "had time". Sheetrock was stacked in a room, just he couldn't find the time while his wife worked all day (and took on a part time evening job for a while). Nice guy, just not motivated to get any work done on his house after he demoed the inside.

I heard the same. In an effort to stop the Amtrack trains of the world, they inadvertently shut down the freighters as well.

I am so glad we live in a small town. Even now, I can look down and see how busy the parking lot of the grocery store is and pick my time to go shopping. With lots of projects at home to do, life went on more or less like normal.
