Jeesh. Talk about a broken up day. Started out with me being lazy until 8:15. Then went and got a hair cut, wait, actually got them all cut. :whistle:Sorry, that's another brother rubbing off on me.

Then took the kids to Lowes and picked up the right screws and the paint I needed for my stake rack project for the truck. Told the paint "pro" I wanted to stay away from oil based to avoid the fumes in the garage and have easier clean up. So they found me a good paint that would work inside and outside. Supposedly. Then they told me I needed to use a primer on the wood. :headbang:Yup, you got it. Best one is an oil based primer.:mad:So I got that and the paint they recommended. So I get home and wife says she thought if you use oil based primer you should use an oil based paint. Follow whatever type primer you use with same type paint.:picard:

Priming done! Now time to shave and shower and get ready to take the wife to a movie.

I rent an old farmhouse so I can't do anything drastic. Caulk and put up that clear thin plastic on the windows.

Not true, its fine to put latex over oil... Its the opposite that fails. Best exterior application is slow dry penetrating oil primer with an exterior latex top coat. Oil seals wood without raising grain. Latex is flexible and longer lasting as a topcoat.

I miss oil paint.. It had some useful qualities. Great for windows doors shelving etc because it gets hard soon after drying and doesnt stick like latex, which taxes months to fully cure

Just got a graphic thought of you with your hair dryer sealing the windows.

I had two bad windows last year that I had to seal that way too. I think it's kinda
cool how the plastic shrinks tight.

Agreed. Oil paint had all the nasty chemicals that prevented mold and mildew. Latex paint is a fungus farm on the shady side of a house.

Oookay. So I have not painted the finish/top coat yet. I primed with an oil based primer. They tinted it grey for me so it would be easier to cover with the black I bought(which is latex base). I can return the latex base and get an oil based paint. They had some right there same color. Would you go with the oil base paint? It is going on older pressure treated wood, which has been outside for a long time. It will be on the stack racks on my truck bed. What would you do. I had planned on going back to Lowes and returning the latex and getting the oil based. Same result. Or will the oil based paint hold up longer?

Oh. By the way. I was priming those rails in my garage and I think there may have been some fumes from that oil based primer! :whistle:If you are seeing pickles coming out of the walls....:bug: Is that when you should crack the windows open? I was thinking maybe I was just really hungry for lunch, then I saw Stinny sitting over in the corner drinking a mixed drink and realized I better crack some windows. :picard:
