I remember when I was teaching our daughter to drive. When she pulled into the driveway, I got out and kissed the ground. In all honesty, she did do pretty good. Now teaching her to drive stick shift was a different story. Got whiplash before she caught on.
The boy was way easier. I believe it was from driving the tractor and truck around here.

Our youngest of our three is almost 23. They preferred to go out with me when they were learning because I wouldn't hardly say a thing while they were driving me around on our training sessions. When they made a mistake, they usually knew it. If I just sat quiet they would note it, or would ask a question about it. I had to bite my tongue a few times though.

My wife on the other hand, while a very good driver herself, was a bit more vocal. Not in a critical way, but nonetheless more verbal.

Our daughter, also a good driver, is the only one who has got so much as a ticket for speeding or parking (she got both).

One thing we did for them is to get the yearly family AAA membership so that they have access to services if ever needed. Our daughter has used it twice for locking her keys in the car, both times rather far from home.

I missed the opportunity to teach them to drive a stick, as none of our fleet had or has one. That is too bad because it is a good skill to have, although nowadays not as necessary.

When I was learning to drive ( on roads, since I had enough experience off of roads), I went out with my mom as the supervisor one time. That was it. She's such a horrible driver, and she is an even worse teacher.

So I always waited until my Dad was available to supervise me.

Framed up and installed a couple new windows and replaced two exterior doors. in one of my "flips". Peeled some siding so I might put some on tomorrow. It is nice when the "job" is right next door.

Started the day meeting the Sheriff next door, at an appreciation breakfast the are gun club holds for all public safety folks in any nearby county.

headed home to warmer temperatures, and met my neighbor in the woods for several hours of cutting rounds.
Before dark, I replaced the broken parts on my 372xp, for another round tomorrow.

settled in after a shower, with my old lab sleeping at my feet.

And that's why no kids deserve a new vehicle (or even remotely close to new) until they can prove they can drive.

Thank goodness those kids were ok.

We taught the girls the basics of driving in the country but enrolled them in driver's school for town and city driving. Easier on the nerves and the tuition was tax deductible. They were the only ones in their group that got their license without restrictions.

My wife is the same as your mother.

My mom was my teacher.Thankfully she is a great driver, and taught me well.

I considered taking her out in my Cadillac, figured if she crashed and totaled that, at least I know I'll break even on it with insurance. Total my wifes car, and I'll have another car payment to deal with.

Ultimately, not wanting her to mess with my seat settings won out.
