Despite my age, I'm more of a Jethro Tull, Skynyrd, Allman brothers type. But, AC/DC and Metallica are in there, too. Also, I'd rather listen to country from 70 years ago than anything made in the past 20 years. Hank Thompson was a great, nice guy that I met just before he died.

Given my hearing problems, I can't listen to music unless I already know it, if that makes sense.

Well, it's starting to flurry outside, and snow until tomorrow morning. I'm starting to get better from my cold, but this ones a doozy.

wildwest , I'll try to abstain from midnight snowblowing.

I was going to mention this yesterday, but I didn’t think anyone else knew about it to believe me. Another trick, although dangerous, is to start a small smokey fire. the deer come running in to see if their part of the woods is on fire. I wouldn’t suggest this method.

Between fixing the washer, going to the grocery store like a good wife and setting up a new wood stacking area, I saw the doe and her baby along with the doe I want to keep with her twins for enough time to get the Winchester and come back out.

The baby of the cull doe and the cull doe came very close, but I want it to be right. ( I can imagine the funny responses from both male and female and welcome them)

Sadly, I'll have to start all over next year.

The sound of a twig snapping will double your heart rate. Great memories.

Just had a thought that y'all might think I'm some kind of hippie or something. I'm surely not. I've raised, butchered and smoked potbelly pigs. About everything I have raised has been for milk or meat. I do still miss my milk goats, though.

The only thing I know about Eddy Vedder is from a Weird Al song. I had to look that up.

Nah, you just care more about how you take, and what is right to take as opposed to taking anything that moves (hopefully it is not a human) or the biggest baddest buck around just to brag about it. I call that respect.

Towards the end of my hunting days, I set up a permanent blind in the woods with a small wood stove in it. Yup, that's right! The stove was designed for an ice shack and it worked great in the deer blind. I was concerned about the smell of the wood smoke affecting the deer. One day in particular, the smoke hung really low over the area I was hunting in. Here they come, at their normal time, with no cares in the world about the smoke! A small fork horn walked within 10 feet of the blind without batting an eye. Walked from the front to the back until I lost sight of him! No concerns.

Ever hear the old tale about the camp cook getting the biggest (whatever)? They just wander in, no worries.

Was it a Michigan made Nu-Way stove by any chance? I have the gas model in my spear shack, and a friends dad has their wood burning model...Great stoves.

Speaking of the wood smoke idea. I used to work for an Indian Reservation and hunted in the same area as some of the guys once in awhile, and a few used to stand next to a small fire during deer season, and it seemed to work for them...not necessarily better than other methods, but it did not hurt their success.

Yes that has happened a few times I am sure. I know of a guy who says that while in camp during shooting hours you should have your rifle handy at all times because one time he walked out of the outhouse and there stood a doe and an 8-point buck, the doe immediately veered off but the buck walked towards him to within 10 yards before walking off trail in the direction of the doe.

8" to 14" big? Then yup, we're supposed to get some. Over the course of the day we ended up with right around 4". Now there is a warning out until Tue morning for the 8-14 amount.

No, not a Nu-Way. The place that made these stoves went out of business and by chance (over 20 years ago) had a couple sitting on a shelf in storage that I talked them into selling.

edit. I'll have to remember to take a couple pics of it once I get to the cottage.

I hunted a number of years back with a now deceased old lad who always started a small fire to stand around and warm up on cold mornings. Ironically, he always called it his Indian fire.
