I dont know. The place was a mess when she bought it. 80s construction and the PO had a pellet stove insert venting up the the chimney. She had that removed and I found the old damper busted and the smokeshelf and flue caked in crusty creosote. She had a cap damper put on and it cleaned but the condo always smells of smoke.

I think the issue last night was she light the fire starter without trying to establish a draft.. but I suspect also its a poorly designed chimney, maybe too short or not sized right for the firebox opening. I need to research.

Kids have been sick the last 3 days so not sleeping well but Im determined nto to let that stop me.

This morning the R/C club organized a work crew to replace the roof of our airfield clubhouse (leanto). The old roof was that corrugated clear plastic and the geniuses put it up with the corrugations perpendicular to the roof pitch so it collected standing water and has leaked for years:picard: This time the same geniuses decided to improve on it with ply and metal roofing, but they forgot to get a ladder (not the pickup doing ladder duty), had no way to cut the metal roofing (good thing I brought my cordless tools and had a metal blade forhe sawsall), had not thought about a rain cap for the high side of the roofing, and did the entire project with drywall screws. :picard::headbang:

Oh well... Its a glorified shed, dont need to be perfect.

On the bright side the weather was perfect and we had a nice burger cookout. After some flying time I headed home, got the last window reinstalled  and caught the end of the Pats game

Just got back from the soccer tournament. Last game of the year, we got first place finally 2 to 1. It was a fantastic game...Kept you on the edge of your toes... This team has remained unbeaten in 3 years in the Lutheran league.

Now out for supper to the Japanese Steakhouse, for a party for a friend...Watch out for those Flyin' Shrimp...

Pulled the trigger on a Jotul Castine on CL today. I think it will fit in the fireplace opening, recessed in a bit I think. It is going to be a close one. It is the blue/black finish too.:dex:Funny thing is that I was mentioning to Well Seasoned just the other day in another thread that I would like to get one if one shows up, and look what happens.

It had been posted for 5 days on CL and no one bit at it. I stripped all removable parts out to lighten it up a little. It needs pretty much all the gaskets replaced. The glass was completely dirty, the glass gasket was hanging down too. It is pretty crazy that someone was running the stove in that condition. I am going to clean it up and give it a once over. It is a beauty under all that dust. The outlet connection had a bit of creosote built up and will get a wire brush to it. It was tied to an 8" liner and the seller removed the stove and liner when they purchased the house.

I was at the MIL's house for dinner this evening and my mind was drifting off thinking of how I am going to get it in the house, and what it needs to get cleaned up. I ended up stacking a cord of cut up ham steak on my plate.

The guy taking it down wanted it, so we built it in the price. Besides my yard is loaded with oak logs and I don't have the time to deal with it right now. White pine in this area isn't worth much with the depressed market up here, so this is the easiest way to deal with it.

For her birthday she said she wanted something that went from 0 to 200 in under 6 seconds so I got her new bathroom scales!:)
Seriously though I have put McDonald gift certificates in ring boxes before! One time I told her that her Christmas gift was coming by UPS and then shipped a bunch of cleaning supplies to her!

I think I will let her stick around for a while. Did I say she has a great paying job?

I appreciate the offer. The parts on this stove came right off, no rusted bolts. I had it broken down in under ten minutes. I think this is going to be a real good re-build project.
