Congrats to schlot , ole and Roger @mars (Thank your grandson for his service, although he looks way to young and innocent to have to fight for our country)

Same here. Judy and I were talking about it just yesterday. I really miss Patty. A partridge that used to follow me around whenever I went in back. Even flew up onto a limb to sit by me one time when I was hunting and had went out before daylight. The bird found me anyway!

Congratulations military parents and grandparents. Our son is a US Army medic and Sargent. He did his basic training at Ft. Sill, medic training at Ft. Sam Houston, then other advanced training other places, most recently at Ft. Hood. He has been deployed to a combat zone, but he/we got through it, luckily not without faith in God.

Now he is contemplating the end of his military career after 8 years in the MN National Guard to focus on his career as a high school English teacher and cross country ski coach. He said it has been well worth it. He is the only one in his friend group from high school who will finish college with a good amount of money in the bank and in investments versus student loan debt.

Make sure they become familiar with the educational benefits of military service. They certainly will earn it, and should use it wisely. The other benefits are even more valuable, including on the job hands-on learning, leadership skills, communication skills, self-reliance, self-discipline, cross cultural experience and perseverance through adversity. He learned so much through his fellow soldiers and leaders in the Army. As a parent, I would not hesitate to recommend it for the young man or woman with the right temperament.

From your Avatar it looks like you have a son/grandson in the Army also.

Congratulations to you and him. The educational benefits is one thing that attracted my grandson.
He wanted helicopter mechanic but didn't score high enough. He started AIT for diesel mechanic today

All of my MOS's were mechanical, both wheeled and track. I loved every minute of it.

If he can stay away from the strip club and the girls trying to trap a soldier, he'll be fine.
