One of our couple friends took my wife and I on a pontoon ride and some fishing on the Mississippi river today between Wabasha MN and Lake Pepin. The ladies talked while my buddy and I fished a backwater area for a few hours. We ended up with 16 beautiful yellow perch up to 12". There is real boom going down there now for jumbo perch. It was a nice day in the mid 60s and hazy skies, turning to mostly cloudy. A tinge of fall color was visible on the bluffs and the bald eagles were soaring. We docked the boat and ate at a restaurant in Wisconsin for lunch.

It was the opener of youth waterfowl so there was some shooting near us while fishing which was a nice accent to the fall feel in the air today. We are heading into my favorite time of year which is now through winter into early spring.

Well put the neighbors hay in her shed for her with the boys. Then took 10 bale over to in-laws for the goats. Came back to see my beautiful wifey before she went to work. She works at an old wooden floor skating rink, and had a private party today. Then the older boy 17, wanted to get cleaned up for his Saturday camping trip with his buddies. They got to the other boys grandmas to hang out because she likes cooking for all of them. Don’t blame them. Then youngest boy wanted to go back to the farm to ride his four wheeler. So while he was tearing up the hay pasture weaving in and out of bales, and tearing thru the woodlot, I went back to the log pile and cut a load of cherry, white oak and hickory to bring home. Got back up to the barns talking to dads and a school friend of mine that I haven’t seen in 15 years pulls in with a load of boiler wood for dad. Nice looking ash hickory walnut and sycamore. I guess dad bought 5 loads off him earlier this year. But it was great talking with him. I told him about this club and he said he was gonna check it out. But he has a side firewood business and cuts/splits every day after work. His neighbor just logged a big woods behind his house and told Bobby(my friend) that all the tops were his! I guess he has been cutting on it quite a while and no end in sight. SCORE!
Made it back home and used the 650 to pick up some rounds to split and get out of the way, then started splitting out of the truck(almost dry) till the back and leg told me I was done! Hope y’all have a great evening. I’m gonna catch up on some reading.

Thanks....:handshake: it’s a bit big for my property (1 acre) but that was the smallest full hydraulic GT that I could get. It’s paid for itself over the 11 years since I bought it... definitely the hydraulics are the way to go to help the ol’ back...:D

Reading about your wife working at a skating rink brought back memories. I worked and lived with a farmer in my youth and he also owned a skating rink. In fact, that is where I met my wife about 58 years ago. Good memories. I used to skate 3 or 4 times per week back then but probably could not handle it now, especially after having 3 hip surgeries and 3 back surgeries. I'm not quite so agile as I once was.

Pretty full day. Neighbor came by with a backhoe and pulled the tractor out of the hole. I think I caught a glimpse of that clown from the Steven King movie.

Tractor no worse for wear, so I mowed my upper pasture to make it nice looking.

Had a Sassafras tree across a lane, so it was turned into firewood. Picked up the remaining wood from the tree that was cut up at our community center.

Did a mix of splitting between boiler wood and fireplace wood, according to the length the tree crew cut a given round. Boiler wood went onto latest holsen haus project. It is about half complete, with a good amount of non conforming splits and chunks.

Spunky wood pieces and other type stuff was dumped into the tractor-eating hole.
