I had a close call with a lightning strike while we were out today. The tree is maybe 30' from the house.

    Luckily, no electrical damage.

A little close for comfort... does that mean it’s turning in firewood?

Well got the pool uncovered... found a rotten board...:picard:... that wouldn’t hold my weight...:picard:... leg is a little tender & tight tonight..... so it looks like I’ll be replacing about 15 boards that aren’t in real good shape...

I got my water pump hoses, impeller, and both water pump and alternator belts installed on my ski boat. I also fixed the battery cable so it's all set now. I cut the last 3/4" of the positive cable off and put the terminal on the good part. I was not getting a good connection all the time before.

Also cleaned it up a bit.

She's all set for the long 4th of July weekend. ( And tomorrow ;) ) 20190629_192915.jpg

That's not one of those temporary clamp-on cable ends is it?! Nothing but trouble those are...

You got that right. I hate those things with a passion. I always swap them out if they come on a piece of equipment I bought.

I fought with them for a few years on my old K10. It would make connection cold but warm it would cause it to drag and heat up the positive connection or just not start id have to pop the hood and wiggle it sometimes like after I stopped for gas. This last winter I finially just spent the like $30 and bought two new cables for it. Haha.

Yeah I will usually just replace the cable unless it is gonna be a real project to do so...if it is, then I'll get a solder-on replacement cable end...NAPA and others have them...you just use a propane or mapp gas torch to heat the terminal end which has a solder pill in it. On some equipment I'll crimp on a good copper ring terminal and then solder it...then that can be bolted to one of those temporary clamp-on cable ends...works out pretty well on small equipment.
Also, don't cheap out on replacement cables, soldered ends are the best, if they have crimped on ends then they need to have a quality heat shrink to seal things up...oh and that reminds me, when I use the NAPA solder ends, I also use their battery cable heat shrink on it too...its basically a XL piece of HD heat shrink with a layer of adhesive inside and it melts to seal everything up real nice when heated to shrink. Many NAPA stores carry it, but many times their people don't even know they have it, or that is not just regular ole "heat shrink"

That stuff is often referred to as "Marine heat shrink" that's my preferred kind. I also am a boat guy and try to out that on everything on my boat even though im a freshwater guy now.

They're tenacious, I know. Next time, answer the door in a jockstrap , wearing a pig mask. Say- "Thanks but no thanks, not interested. Hey, c'mon in for a beer, you look thirsty....(low chuckle)". Gives you 12 months until they elect a new person for recruiting people, as I understand it.
Not gonna lie, I've done that. The guy at the door knew me, he thought it was funny. The older, very pious lady with him almost had a heart attack. She was an azz anyways.

    It works.
edit- I can't believe I shared that, I'm not proud of that but it was funny and effective. :emb::picard:

My dog must have crapped himself when it happened. I had lightning hit a pole in front of my house once years ago, scared the crap out of me.
