I was worried about that too. My dad said he heard her snorting in the woods. I went back later that evening and found them together...she came back for her baby.

They were on high alert too. As soon as I pulled up they darted from behind the house back into the field.

Some people just like the attention they get from the drama they create. It's almost like their personal soap opera/reality TV show that they get to direct. I know a few people like that. The best thing to do is be direct and tell them you have no interest in their BS and then change the conversation to what YOU want to talk about. You don't need to yell when you're direct with them either, just command respect from them for the attention and time you're giving them. You're there to listen and be compassionate for REASONABLE issues. You're not the host of day time TV drama. They will either learn to set aside their foolishness and talk to you like adults or they will act childish and never get over their imaginary issues.

You mentioned you were ill. I do hope that it's something that can get better over time, and if it is, the best way to get there is to make sure YOU are getting what you need to get yourself better. That's difficult to do with distractions and drama from people you shouldn't expect it from. They, as your parents, should be initiating conversations that address YOU and your health, and your children, not their drama or imaginary friends or whatever else they have going on. To address those ridiculous things before their daughters' well being is immature, petty, and insulting.

Speak in a direct tone, try not to be emotional, and YOU drive the conversation beyond water cooler talk. If they keep interjecting drama into the conversation, you cut them off, tell them you're done with this conversation, that you have better things to do, and tell them to get back with you when they can act like parents. And you can always find satisfaction in knowing YOU are being a great mother for your children.

I expected this outcome. Too many people when they see a baby deer thing it was abandoned. Not so! Rarely does that happen. It is normal for a deer to have the baby but not stay very close to it. Sometimes they will be fairly close but not often. They will leave them until feeding time then go find them. All is well.

It is great you were able to leave or get away from the fawn. Mama will teach it some better manners.

Couple days ago we saw one of the neighborhood cats chasing a rabbit in our yard. The rabbit got away but then we saw a doe walking towards the cat. When they were nose to nose, the cat bolted and started running with the doe in hot pursuit and taking a couple swipes at the cat. The cat got chased into the woods and up a tree. After a minute or so the cat came out of the tree and got chased again. I had seen a fawn in the area a few days prior. Moral of the story is don't mess with momma when young are involved.

They will leave them in a "safe" spot while they go find food or roam around. I walk up on fawns pretty often or scare them bush hogging like that.

If you have survivor's insurance thru the bank, make sure it is transferred and transferred correctly (has all names it is supposed to). One of the times our mortgage got transferred they dropped my name. I did get them to reinstate it after going back thru about 4 lenders worth of documents.
