Soooo..... I think I closed a deal with my BIL on his truck. I'll probably head to Douglas, Wyo. on Friday to finalize the deal.
2002 Ford F-250 4wd, 7.3 turbo, 4-dr. short box. Lifted and new tires. The thing is pretty clean, a little hail damage on the hood but no rust to speak of.
I don't have pics. but Val drove it last week and loved it. The few pictures I saw had it looking spiffy. It's got 197K miles and always serviced, he's the 2nd. owner.
$7800. Does that sound about right? He said it would have booked for 12K+ if not for the cosmetic damage. Thoughts?

Sounds like a deal...even that book price would be OK around here for rust free. My buddy sold a nice truck like the one you are buying (only OBS, '96 IIRC) with couple hundred K miles at a DEALER only auction for almost $10k!

If well cared for that will make a nice work horse at a good price. Congratulations

Let me get my hands on it, then I'll see what I can do about pics. What I saw, it's clean and Val concurred (and she drove it, so there's that)
Plus- new tires @ a claimed $400/pop. He said less than 500 miles on the tires and they looked aggressive.
Hopefully I'll have a positive update next weekend.

I caved and put in an above ground pool for the family - 24' round 52" high, chlorine based.

I have the mentality I can always save a buck. Bought the pool end of summer last year off CL for $300, it was 2 years old. New liner and we are at $700 so I think not bad saved a couple grand on the pool alone, nevermind site and electrical work.

I will NEVER put up a pool again. It is miserable work. I don't care how much we "saved" as my time is not free nor is my sanity.

Got about 2" more to go on the water fill (9k gallons trucked in, the rest is on the well so I've been babying it over 2 days as our well pump is only 80' down.) Then we'll see what leaks I have in the filter system. The gasket install seemed successful but I did have a couple drips in old fittings that will have to be remedied before next year's opening.

Now time for the deck build. Good thing I waited until mid-summer!

    Frugal - yes
    Smart - nope

Similar here- FIL had a pool-in-a-box (the cheap kind with the air filled ring around top), never used, Fire Flake was like “can we, can we???!!!”......you know how that goes.
I tell her “you’re gonna learn about testing and chemicals”.... guess who’s doing that part now?

Every summer we get two or three days where there is no cold westerly, the weather is around 22-24 C/73-78 F and you would be able to sit out on a patio, have a BBQ and a fire pit. The last couple of days have been like that. I keep thinking wouldn't it be nice to have a patio and BBQ. Then the weather changes back to regular summer with the cold westerly blowing in the afternoon and those thoughts fortunately go away.

cnice_37 and Eric VW I made that mistake when my wife moved in 10 years ago. To be fair we did have 6 full-time kids that summer under the age of 6. Went to Walmart about a 24-foot Intex pool.
Where are the wife wanted it there was a tree. She said that's okay I own a chainsaw.
The ground was 2 feet out of level. She said that's okay I have a tractor and retaining wall blocks.
So we put in the sand, the boys went in it and the water runs down the poles and it's out a level.
So we take the pole down and build a 1 foot wide ring out of concrete and re- bar and set it back up, it's level:thumbs:

Next year we run correct electric..
Next year we build a deck..
Dad opens it every fathers day with water temps barely 50:shiver:

Its easily 500 dollars a year in chemicals and 4 hours a week cleaning. (Of course my job) life changed and pool got used more by visitors than only daughter, pools are not fun alone. Pools are not fun when cold either.. So July and August mostly..
I wrote all of that to say.. Turns out 7 years later it was dead center on septic distribution box.. That got squished. Remember that concrete and rebar:headbang::doh:.. Yup my wife loves that story.. I hope your experiences are happier..
Better plan make friends with neighbor that has a pool!!

What is "book price"? Nada? For dealer pricing? Or kbb for private party. Private party that furd books for 1600-3k. Local Craigslist agrees. Dealer pricing for "book Vale" isn't much higher..?

Yeah, wife has wanted a pool for 10 years, and I've held off until year 11. The kicker is we live in a great neighborhood, with families that have kids that play with ours... and all of the families have pools! It is not a "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality either; she grew up with a pool and as a teacher has summers off. Whatever, I'll foot the bill.

I was an easy foot out of grade. Even with the tractor it took me a long time to get level. Skid steer would have been the better tool but I can't drive one and was too cheap to find someone to do it. Live and learn...

Is the wiring the problem, or the dryer.

That looks like a loose wire on the outlet.
That's cheaper than a new dryer.
