It's amazing looking at national temperatures. 92 in IN and 90 in KS and MO. People talking about air conditioning. We were happy to be in the high 60's yesterday. Only a few days ago we saw 80 in IN and IL while MI was 30's and 40's for most of the state. But, the heat will get here soon enough. I'm surely not looking forward to the heat and humidity though. I like it warm but not sticky.

We are enjoying better than summer temps here this week as well. If fact, this weather is better than what we usually get because there is no bitter cold westerly sucking the heat out of the day. We are seeing the summer tourist boats anchoring out now in the harbour and it is dry. campinspecter is headed out for another load of wood this morning.

A "house phone" is what you use to call your electric coop to report a power outage when you do not have cell service at home. Gotta make sure it is one of the hardwired phones as well.

My cell doesn't work too well in the house without wifi calling. But thankfully, I can just step outside and have signal to make a call without lighting off the generator to power the router.

Well, I picked up a pair of hearing aids this morning. Something to get used to for sure. Hearing lots of things now I haven't heard for a while. I hope they work out okay.

As far as our life goes, phones are there for our convenience. Horkn and Mwalsh9152

Don't need to be tied down to one every waking (and sleeping) minute of the day.

Ask yourself just how it was 20 years ago......then compare it to now!

20 years ago I had two alpha numeric pagers, and two enormous Nextel phones, a personal cell phone, and no house phone. Today, I have two cell phones that stacked are thinner than one Nextel was, and still no house phone.

2 way radios were awesome. We were much more efficient in tow trucks when a driver right near a call would take a call dispatched to someone that wasn't close if they were.

35 plus years ago I was working at a Motorola service shop. Motrac and Micor radios were very popular for police, ambulance and fire depts. There was even a mobile phone that consisted of a 20 watt transiever that was mounted in the trunk of a car with a large phone head up by the driver. It took 4-5 hours to install one of those. Some of the older radios were T-power, dispatcher--Taxi cabs used a lot of those, and one called a turkey roaster. Power needed to transmit with some of those would kill a battery in short order if the vehicle wasn't running.

You have to be persistent in using them before you reap the benefits. Everyone else will benefit as well.

WiFi calling will take care of the poor cell coverage. It will also allow you to drop the land line.

Yep phones are there for our convenience. It's an inconvenience to have a phone that can ring full blast at any hour of the night, or day when we want them to be silent.

I also find out very convenient to look up a part, order it online, and call someone about it at the same time, from the same device, pretty much anywhere I go. I can call 911 by voice if I have to if I'm using both of my hands to say, hold onto a tree so I don't fall down. Or other crazy situation.

That's my version of convenience. Yours may be different. :handshake:

18 years ago is when I got my first cell phone. I use it for work, to take pictures of product, or a part, also I take pics before I take something apart so I know how to put it back together again, and I use it to see stuff that you can't without, say putting the car up in the air, or pull the engine to see something on the firewall.

    Tons of great uses.;)

Not many people call my personal phone. Benefits of being antisocial. However, it and my work phone sit on the charger in my kitchen when I go to bed at night....unless my wife is still out when I go to bed.

Yep, that's why cell phones are great. Put them on mute, or off. Heck, mine knows when I sleep and won't ring unless it's a designated number that's calling me, like my mom.
