I am a board member for the local cemetery and I repair the equipment. We had a fund raiser to purchase a new mower. While tying down our new John Deer mower to the trailer I noticed that all 4 tires are weather checked. The dealer is now trying to find 4 new tires and here I sit:mad:

Going to be a goof off day, the boss is off to quilt club and the outside isn't good for playing in the garden.

Likely I'll queue up something like Wild Africa on the tube and zone out.

At least the dealer didn't have a prob with new tires. Good you noticed them. Mowing a cemetery around all the stones is an incredible amount of work. How big is the area and how big a crew? Prolly you'd rather be rolling with the mower right now as the grass is comin fast. Good luck.

I used to do the mowing, trimming, and leaf removal at a cemetery. It was not fun. Not even a little. I earned my spot on the mowing crew by doing the trimming there for a summer. It took me about 3 days, 4-5 gallons of fuel, and a ton of line. To this day I still hate trimming.

I don't doubt it. That's an awful lot of work with not much fun attached to it. Most folks don't have any idea what goes into keeping a cemetery looking good. I'm also a cemetery trustee and we've been really lucky for quite a few years. Have a guy who loves mowing it, and now, he gets a young feller to ride the trimmer around the stones instead of doing it himself. Prolly 2-3 acres.

The one I did was somewhere around 15 acres.

Yeah... not any fun there at all. I figured if it took 3 days, it had to be big.

Our trimming nightmare is upon us-- after getting the neighbors giant weedbed of an abandoned lawn bailed we are up to the point of whacking the weeds and finding all the junk they have piled up against the buildings. That junk is going in their canopy shed and the lawn waste is to be burned. Then I am going to clean up the tree line and open up a walkway to the park on the other side of said tree line. Why am I doing this? Because the owner hasn't touched the place since the gas station that was there went under. He hired it mowed about 4 times in the past three years, and it hadn't been mowed for 11'months until I adopted it on Tuesday.

I put an alternator on my SIL's Focus a month and a half ago. The other day it was dead, so she had it towed here. Last night I check everything else before I pull it off, because there is nothing straightforward about it. Have to take off heat shields and a snorkel that supplies cool air to the alternator, because it is right next to the exhaust, pull the bolt out of the trans mount and wiggle it out the bottom side.

I take it back to Advance, it fails on the tester. Get another reman, I'm walking out, turn around, and have them test that one. Fail. The only one they have. I can get one from another store, or a refund. Refund.
'Umm, I need the core refunded, too.'
    'Huh?'
'I going somewhere else, and I don't have a core.'
    'Oh. I'll have to check.'
    :hair:
    'Okay. I'll need your card.'
    'Here ya go.'
'You're all set. It was run as credit, so you'll see it on your account in a couple of days.'
'Wait, what? WTF am I supposed to do now? Because of your junk, I'm without a car until I get a refund?'
'I'm sorry. If it was run as a debit, I would have given you cash.'
    :hair::headbang::hair:

Never again. I went to the local guy, got a NEW alternator for $20 more, with a core of $15 less, for an net extra expense of $5. I went thru the exact same issue with the alternator on my Excursion, minus the money issue. Junk reman, junk replacement off the shelf. The manager did some funny stuff with core charges, and I walked out with a new one for nothing extra out of my pocket. I shoulda learned then.

Rant over, just needed to vent.

Glad you thought to have that one tested-- switching alts isn't a fun job-- especially when you do it over and over!

I started mowing a neighbor's yard this year. She's old, and her lazy kids and grandkids take advantage of her, and don't give anything back. It takes me about ten minutes, and I don't have to shake my head every time I drive by.

I would have never went there in the first place, but it was one of those late night convenience things. Now it's another 4-5 hours of screwing around, more skinned knuckles, and a tow bill for her. Lifetime warranties don't take that into account. Don't sell junk to begin with.

They put 4 new tires and wheels on. We have 2 good guys mow our cemetery and it takes about 25 hours for one guy to do it. Our old John Deer is 13 years old and worn out,

Yeah, once it's clean up it will cost me about an extra 20 mins each mow day, but it will be nice knowing we will have evicted most of the Mosquitos and critters that have been taking over. I flushed out soooo many rabbits when mowing. I really need to get going on those live traps.

Do you have a big one? I worked on a dairy farm when I was younger, and we ran a PTO generator on a 4430 or a 125hp 4020. Those tractors would jump and belch out a big black cloud when the milkers were turned on.
