Supposed to go to the cemetery with the old man today, rain is kinda putting the damper on things.

    Getting breakfast into me.

Well the back field got hayed, in celebration of the traditional start of the summer season I washed all of the winter coats, mittens, hats, and gloves, then I cooked supper. I even got a nap in there somewhere.

Got to the cemeteries after all, weather cleared and we got into the upper 70's. Can't say I'll have too many more memorial days like this, dad is 83 now and even today was a struggle. Ended our trip with an ice cream at the DQ. Oreo blizzard for me :)

Had a great Memorial Day yesterday! The weather couldn't have been any better! Took the kids to the parade in town and to the zoo then came home and grilled out and ate dinner on the patio. We then had a giant water fight that had me the loser and soaked from head to toe! My husband, trying to be sneaky locked the house doors so I couldn't get in to fill my bucket and grabbed the wrong keys so we were locked out. I had to break the screen and send my little guy through a window to unlock the door. It was kind of funny. Hope you all had a great day too!

Glad you had the time together. In the years ahead... that time becomes more and more important, doesn't it? Ice cream after sounds great.

Welp... found out from the code enforce guy with the town, that I don't need a building permit to add a 10' section to the end of the woodshed. Will wonders ever cease? Wheels are turning as whether to rent the post hole digger for just a couple holes or bull it. I could punch 4 holes out at the end of the drive too, for a couple sections of fence, at the same time. Hmmmmm...

I've had good luck with "Oz posts" for things that don't need a whole lot of support like a fence, they are about the same $ as a sono tube with concrete, and a whole lot easier to install, as long as you are not going into really rocky soil.

Just gonna rip the holes, drop a pc of PT 2x6x6 down in for a shoe, tamp it good, set 4"x4" PT posts in and back fill/tamp. It may move a little but that'll be OK. The floor section is going to sit entirely on blocks so no weight, beyond the roof, will be on the 2 posts. I want to wrap the existing 4"x4" poles, and these new ones, with 2x7 PT to help with the twisting and add a little strength.

Doing sign pole holes along the coast years ago, I found the soil could be very different. One area was all clay, all the way to 5-6' deep. The auger liked that stuff. But, most down that way, it was like digging a hole in a pile of rocks... without dirt almost. Digging holes was always an adventure.

Looks good to me... why... she think that was odd? ;) Sometimes a floor is the closest flat surface to get relief.

Want to dig some lot line pole holes without an auger? Can always be interesting. 18" or so around and 10% + 2' of the pole height. Also have to hand dig if in miss utility marks. Oh well I chose this job.

I suppose there are times you can't get the auger truck close enough. Yikes. I've seen the holes the auger's leave setting poles. Can... not... imagine... digging one by hand. Along with a 10' digging bar, you prolly carry a 10' spade and a 10' spoon don't ya'?

The sign company I started out with had those "little" tools. I dug plenty of holes with them... but not holes the size you guys gotta have. Good grief.
