Down the road someone put in a "tiny house". Probably 600sf max. And a pole barn, its HUGE, (guesstimate like 25' x 40' ).

kicking myself today just spent 3 hours getting snowblower on and PTO shafts is buggared... I know better.. never wait til last minute! never assume when others put it away they did it correctly always double check..:headbang: well instead of blowing 6 inches of wet stuff it will be driven on repeatedly and sanding will be necessary. ..

    Speaking of furnaces in garages....

Guy who works with me was telling me his parents, who have a wood furnace in their garage (that much is no issue here) had an official show up to discuss complaints about burning tires....

    Conversation went kinda like this...

    Have you been burning tires?

    No..

How bout we have a look at your furnace?

    Why?

Cause burning tires leaves a certain residue, Yada Yada

Do you have a warrant to enter my garage?

    ..No..

    Go **** yourself.

We could come back with a warrant...

...and if I WAS burning tires, I'd have it cleaned out, buried in the backyard....and..you can go **** yourself.

    I found that pretty funny.

Brilliant! I never thought of that. I was just assuming the floor would be concrete, and that'd be over crushed rock and the dirt. It's really just going to need to hold a car, boat, and other toys on the main level.

Plus we have a grade that would facilitate a walk out.

    I owe you a beer!:drunk:

Yes, any outbuilding can't be taller than the house in my town.

Eric's idea should work well though, all that would be needed versus a "normal" garage would be steel joists and or concrete for the floor to hold up a couple tons of cars and toys.

You mean black coffee? No way, YUK!
JK, I know what you meant.
No not really...my taste buds just really pick up the alcohol taste in almost any adult beverage...and they don't like it...if I'm going to drink anything hard it will probably be some girly/fruity drink. I did have some homemade blackberry wine one time that had very little perceptible alcohol taste, but was knock you on your butt strong...like one bottle had 4 adults buzzing.

I'd pretty much say the same thing myself.... I like the attitude.

They live in a more rural, outskirts area of a 6,000 pop municipality.....they have a nice property but apparently there's a few less than ideal neighbors in the vicinity who like to tattle tale.

I absolutely love the freedom my area has.....it's not a municipality, there's really no one to complain to but the police, and they're miles away away hardly come around (and they're the type of cops who realize some laws are stupid and act accordingly), and everyone tends to look out for each other instead of being petty about stuff like that.

I have trouble wrapping my head around places like the big cities which more or less require you buy a permit to paint your fence....I can go home right now, build whatever size garage I want, make whatever modifications I want to my house, drill a shaft mine in the backyard while i'm at it, and no one can or will say a thing.....

Of course, for my place, not many people will see what's going on anyway....
