Digging out or getting ticks? Whatever that stuff is that you put on the back of their neck once a month works well to keep ticks from biting them. Unfortunately they are still going to have some on their fur if they are out.

Right where I want to be.
We use Advantix2. It's not inexpensive.
Ticks still haven't hit here......yet, that I know about. I check every time I go outside or in the woods.
Most of the ticks that get on the dogs don't live very long.
If you aren't going back in the woods for a while, get goin' on those rounds.:axe:
    And, don't forget the pics.

"I don't feel like a true firewood hoarder because I haven't been able to get at least two years ahead on the wood supply. I have almost 2 cord left for some DHW supply burning and to get started with in September. Then I have at least 10 cord blocked up but not split." … ummm … you're hoardin juz fine… ;)

As for the dogs & tick combo. We always have a tick collar on Giz. No ticks yet. The fence issue is, as you know, a pain. Only thing I've seen done is bury 18" strip of fence at least a foot, at a 45 degree angle in from the existing fence, and wire it (tie it) together so they can't get thru or under. Our huskies were masters of escape. We used cable runs instead of fences tho. Hindsight 20/20, we should have crated them as puppies and a lot of hassle would have been avoided. My son did that, no probs… yet…

Got the corner cabinet installed last night. Wife is happy. Still need to install the drawer front on the bottom of it though. Not crazy about having it there, but when you are reusing doors you don't have a lot of choice in how things lay out and I wanted to fill the space with something.

The dogs have all their proper shots, including one for ticks. But that does not stop the ticks getting on them. I think all it does is help prevent Lyme. They still get on them and drink until they are engorged. Disgusting P.I.A. !

I hope to be splitting a good portion of that pile of rounds this weekend. Pics will be coming as long as that happens. Fingers crossed!

Thinking up some ideas for the fence. I have about 600' of fencing. So trying to come up with an idea where it does not require too much of my time. We did crate our pups when they were young. And it worked great. And occasionally they still have to go in their crates. But we try to do that as little as possible now. We have a place in the stairwell where there is a large concrete floor landing and we trap them in there between two gates. This gives them a lot of room to stretch and walk around and they lay on a large piece of carpet we have there for them. So they are pretty comfy there. We do like to be able to leave them in the yard for a few hours at a time and not worry about them getting out. That way they get plenty of exercise running around and wrestling with each other, patrolling the perimeter of the fence. Which includes barking at anyone who walks/bikes down the road. Any horse and buggies that come by. Any noises out in the woods that need attention. Any activity over at the neighbors house. Any large birds like turkeys that come around. Any wildlife like fox, coyote, deer. But we always know when someone is around, and that is just what we want. :binoculars:

I have an underground fence. It works great...most of the time the dog doesn't even need to wear the collar.

Firewood type work has me thinking in terms of doing things a few at a time, until it's done. That got me thinking about keeping your dogs from digging under the fence… doing it a little at a time. If you had access to small steel rod (thinking 3/8" rebar or ?) and cut them into many 18" lengths using a steel cutting chop saw… you could drive those in the ground at an angle, from the outside of the fence. Yup, they'd have to be only 3"-4" wide I know. It can go pretty quick, if the ground isn't too hard or rocky, by using a pipe and driver to pound em in. Slide a 3' long pc of 1" pipe over the rebar, have a 4' piece of 3/4" rod that slides inside the pipe and hits the top of the rebar, driving it in. In the right conditions, you could punch 40 of em (10 feet of fence) in 10 minutes, easy.

Now, if your dogs are just gonna dig them out and carry them off and bury them… might have to go with plan B.

Looking out the window at my lawn that needs mowed....BAD. Supposed to rain for 3 more days. Probably going to have to cut it wet tonight. The mower handles it just fine, just tends too look like for a few days afterward.

Plan B include cracking the dog over the brain box with the rebar? (I kid!)

    Sometimes my dog though...ARGH!
Other night I came home late and bought a burger some nuggets. i usually get a 4 pc nugget for the dog, but they had a 20 pc for 4$!
Barely had a chance to get in the house, dog is trying to get in the bag acting like he hasn't ate in 2 weeks. In that process pizzes about 48 gallons all over the bag of food, my legs, feet, the couch, 2 carpets, floor, and himself in about 2.4 seconds.

My plan of shower, food and bed got turned to spending almost an hr cleaning pee and tossing my supper in the trash.

He had JUST gone out too.

Yup. They still have them. That is for sure. They dig under the fence when they get bored. They know they can go back in the woods to the camp, run all over the place, swim in the pond, chace the pair of Geese that are making said pond their home. Good times!

So, for now, when we let them out one of us just goes out and hangs out with them. But I am going to come up with something. It was nice when the ground was frozen. :thumbs:No diggy then!

i tell him "no" so he lets loose about 48 gallons of pee all over the bag of food, my legs, feet, the couch, 2 carpets, floor, and himself in about 2.4 seconds.

Depends. Your incremental cost is pretty small on a per foot basis because all you need is more wire...most of the cost is tied up in the collar(s) and the transmitter. The unit I have can run something like 3 miles of fence off one sending unit, but I'm only running about 2000'. It is a SportDog brand and has been pretty much trouble free. I did have to call customer service once and they were refreshingly helpful and easy to deal with. I highly recommend it if you want to go that way.
