I just had something I have not had in a while when drinking. I pulled the jar of Kosher Dill "sandwich stuffers" out of the fridge and guamed several in a row. Ohhh man

This was my first year making pickles and it was a lot of fun. Made bread and butter and kosher dills. The wife made some great refrigerator deli style pickles.
They all turned out a lot better than expected. Everyone we gave them to, finished them off and gave the jars back asking for more.

I thought for sure they were going to turn out like those pickles aunt Bea made that Andy and Barney had to eat up.

I'm at a conference in Cleveland ("the mistake by the lake") till Sunday. Ugh. At least with smart phones now you can read something interesting online while suffering through yet another interminable presentation with no relevance whatsoever.

Took today off work. One of my flying buddies has been on a bet this year to break a record and fly his model helicopter 1,000 times in a year (about 250 hours in the air). Today is the big day he hits 1k so we are all heading out to the airfield with cameras to watch.

Meanwhile the Mrs is making stew and my parents are driving up from CT for the weekend. Definitely be firing up the fireplace(s) this weekend. Maybe not the stove yet tho...

This morning I went to the dump for my parents and us. Then went down the other side of the property with posted signs. Then ran to Lowe's and got some things I needed to include a large rope! Then dropped a large maple near the camp that was a threat to the power line.

Holy chit I worked up an appetite. Two homemade wraps with turkey, cheese, lettuce and mayo, salt and pepper and parmesion cheese. And a good mit full of cheese nips! Was to lazy to cut the onions! LOFL

    Renovating!
The section on the left with the concrete mantle will be the next to go. I'll rent a concrete saw and cut a line, then remove everything left of the line.
Then the stove will come out and the bricks will be taken out at the bottom of the opening, bringing it down to floor level.
After the left section is removed, I'll probably put the project on hold for a month or two. By then I figure I'll have an idea of what kind of winter we'll be getting.
I'd hate to pull that stove out and then have temps dip into the single digits for a month. And that's exactly what would happen.
The plan for the final product is stone veneer over the brick with ceramic tile on hearth and on inside walls of the opening.

We don't use this room that much right now anyway, except to sit in front of the fire and sip a glass of rye.
When the room is done, I think we'll be spending a lot more time in it.

It's the grain that it's made from. It's made with the same process as bourbon, but can't be called bourbon because it uses mostly rye.
We find it to be smoother than bourbon.

And this is the one we drink most.

I never knew Canadians had such good taste in whiskey.

    I'm from Norky.
