With around a quarter of an inch of rain coming in tonight and even more tomorrow, I top covered our six f/c of shoulder season wood tonight. I also top covered a f/c of pine and maple in a different area that's been up over a year so we'll burn that first so I can stack some better wood there this fall.

Any heavy equipment operators here? What's a fair starting non union part time wage for a guy with no experience moving dirt but has common sense, a killer work ethic, and great ability and willingness to learn? This is for me.....and I'm 39. Not your typical lazy millenial.

I got offered a part time gig, and they are willing to work around my other work. Everything seems great, but the pay difference from self employed to I'm a warm body willing to make a life change is significant.

We pay lazy knuckleheads 18-20 to drive a forklift in a warehouse. I would think you could get 25ish give or take to start.

It's kinda hard to think about closing your business and going to work for some one else.

That's hopefully what this would lead to. A transition to full time operator, instead of self employed headaches. The long term benefits outweigh my current self employed bullchit.

bocefus78 if your not making 80k a year or 50 an hour it's better in terms of 401k match unemployment etc etc to be employed by someone else.. the time commitment for paperwork is unbearable here .. do NOT be a sub chapter S though for less than than double previous salaries mentioned

Without getting into numbers......yes. I don't make those numbers per year. Hourly I got it....but that's not all year long money. It's in spurts and not consistent enough for the long run.

It's time to make a move. I seem to have value with these guys cuz they know my snow moving abilities. Timing I guess.

then you need to put a value on your downtime and then there your decision.. right now I only get those numbers when I need them but down time is with children so that's important to me

Really depends on the company quite a bit around here...grunt labor probably mid teens to start, an operator with at least some experience, low twentys...probably add $5 hr pretty easily with a little more experience...median household income is 50k yr here.

Sitting on the plane, going to Minneapolis from Albany; and then back to Atlanta. Jack Straw was right- it is beautiful country between Albany and Cooperstown. But then again, not quite as beautiful when covered with a few feet of snow months deep into a long winter! I know you guys get serious snow out that way when virtually every home has cords and cords of firewood stacked up and ready to go for winter! I was most impressed though by one operation behind a house near Cobleskill- there was an actual mountain of firewood that would probably rival a commercial operation, and a very pretty Timberwolf splitter at the base of the mountain. Hats off to that guy! I felt like knocking on his door and inviting him to join the club!
    Y'all have a good day!
