My lot wasn't marked (1950). Just went off the neighbors, driveway, and an old fence line (at the end of the day wasn't totally correct). Till I had to build a fence on one side, then I hired my buddy and his coworker to mark my property. Wow, that was interesting for the land pin locations that they had to find to go off of.

If yours is newer lot a metal detector could find them. Especially if you know one of your neighbors pin location and can give you a area to measure off of (assuming lots are fairly cookie cutter sizes).

What did that cost you as I remember my Pittsburgh neighbor having "our" line surveyed and it cost $500---then I had to move my shed---remember? (of course we do---the pallet wood challenge nobody won :(

Since my land has a slight hill too it and no direct line of sight from the two official line pins. He put a few extra "reference " in between so I could draw a straight line easier.

Really foggy this morning. I am feeling old as our oldest daughter and her husband just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. 2oth!!! Also I have been working on the 50th celebration of our high school of which we were the third grad class from it. It really doesn't seem to be that long ago when these things happened. Of course, I shouldn't complain. Mom says that I will feel old when our oldest turns 65. That's what happened to her. I guess I have a few years to go then.

A good metal detector should help. Survey grade stuff is a world above the typical ones though, but a regular one might just do the trick.

Wisconsin should typically have "good" monumentation for property corners. Probably metal pins (usually cut rebar) but it may also be metal pipe, spikes or even nails. New laws dictate that property corners need to be "permanent" which would mean nails and even spikes aren't enough, but if it's never been surveyed before they still might be the monumentation you find. In some areas of the country a wood post, tree or even rocks are used as historical evidence still today.

Word to the wise, just because you find a pin or such near a property corner, they might not actually be correct. Can't tell you how often we find erroneous evidence that we don't use because they were so badly set in the first place.

Two of my pins are in/under the road in front of the house. The other is a big pipe that sticks about 5' out of the ground that a cherry tree is growing into. There's probably a pin under that tree somewhere too. I have no idea where the third one is, but I have a pretty good idea where to dig if I ever need to locate it.

Around here, they drive 3/4" x 4' pins all the way into the ground when you get something surveyed. If you want a visual marker, that's typically on you to add something yourself.

I've seen property corners marked with Iris plants before. They live basically forever and don't migrate much, so I can see why the old timers would have used them.

Such a shame. He had to get home to fire up the grill rather than drink beer. There has to be something wrong with that man...
