I'm on the last legs of stacking today. My new dilemma is finding a new place to dry a cord of red & white oak. I'm gonna go with the pallet method but where? Wife might be hating me after this weekend. The backyard is turning into a wood lot. :)

Not this coming years wood, but the one after that is being stacked on pallets (this is the stuff we are working on now). Some of the pallets were a little big, chainsaw helped me make the adjustments needed.

She won't hate you when her butt is warm instead of freezing this coming winter.

Just got back from fishing, only caught one sucker. No picture, my ten year old dropped it when I was taking the picture. If only I was half a second faster it would have been a funny picture! :)

Planning on lighting the stove soon. :firepit:

Have to go out and make some splits first with my new splitting maul. :axe:

Overnight low of 38. Shoulder season is kind of nice! My new hatchet should be arriving soon to play with for kindling making and stuff.

Do you eat them? We used to make a pretty tasty fish cake out of them ( a lot of work though).

No, we don't eat them. Some people smoke them but we have never tried it.

It's my Gransfors splitting maul. Works great, and I love the metal wrap at the end of the handle. Getting their little hatchet any day now.

We would seine net them as kids. Only took a couple minutes to fill four 5 gallon pails. Then my grandma would pickle them. The only thing I like pickled are gherkins. ;)

Off to my job, todays project, auger 12 four foot holes for a new deck.
fingers crossed that the earth gods will keep the large stones away from
    my holes :)

I did that by hand using a post hole digger and the earth gods had a few large rocks for me one of them is now the landing for the steps to the deck it was a monster, flat on one side stone. Wasn't fun getting it out of the hole. Good luck, I only needed four holes and I pity anyone who is doing 12.

I hope a few rocks are all you gotta deal with. I installed a big sign where we had to do 5 holes. The digging was fine… until we found out the area was on a peat bog… :headbang: We'd quoted the job to use bags of concrete mixed in the holes, which we did all the time. Had to hire a concrete truck to fill the cave ins under a 24" solid level. And, in Maine, it's usually rocks that cause headaches. Good luck.
