So true… if hydraulics can get close to a huge pile of branches, it saves time and back pain. When I can't, I use rope and the atv. I don't know what the terrain is right under the trees, but if it's possible, you might be able to use a 12'-15' section of 1" aluminum tube (thinking 3 sections of a roof rake handle) to slide the end of a rope under the best groups of branches, choke the whole pile and tug them to your burn area… head back for more. And, you prolly already do sumthin like this. I hate bulling every branch by hand.

Sure is a nice field down there.

With two pieces of property now, it has become MUCH longer!

Trying to get as much done back at camp before the ground goes to no snow. Then everything will shift to cleaning up the property at the house. The ice storm and some snow and wind brought down some branches this winter. There will be a lot of raking and repairing areas of the ground. I am estimating, working off and on, the house property will take three weeks to have it all ready for cutting grass. I also have a chitload of wood to split! LOFL!

I only have one property and had a ton of mess from this winter. I also tackled some projects that would have taken forever without a tractor.

What do you guys think of this? I have been thinking of this for a while now. There is too much snow right now. But not for long. I may just plow a road through the snow down there to be able to use the machine to round up all the branches into two big piles. I will have to be carefull of small saplings I have cut though and stay out of those areas. They will tear up your tires when your machine weighs over 9000 lbs.

You gotta love that you can now see under and thru the trees you trimmed… all the way to the back of the field. Really like open space like that.

Is the ground good and frozen under the snow? Bet you'd have some good mornings where the top stayed frozen. What does your weather look like?

The biggest reason I did this was so we can see the rest of the pond that is in the back part. I will have to see if I can find a picture of it with no snow for ya.

Oh, that would be nice! I do know the area well from mowing the grass. So I could drag the branches to the areas I know I keep cut. Which are not far. Then plow a road through the snow and move them with the machine. I would wait for most of the snow to melt. It is over my knees in some places. I thought, out loud, to myself a few times today. And as I carried a ladder through the snow I said, "Self. Are you out of your god dam mind?!"

That sounds good until it starts to thaw the top of the ground you plow down to the trees and causes ruts, or worse. It's so tough to get her done when the ground gets ready to "slime". I'd be thinking the same thing too… how much more you can get done with a machine. Good luck.

A very valid concern! No chains. Could I get back up the hill?

Sometimes I have to make sure I pay attention!

Time to get breakfast going for everyone. I'm hoping to have another day of working outside almost all day long. Snow is still too deep to cut wood, but after today's temperatures it should be getting back down to a decent depth so I can go in and cut again. I only need another cord or two and I will be all set for next season. Lot's of splitting to do.

Change of pace for me, I'm not working on other folks houses, I'm working on my own today.
Installed a new hardwood floor in my wifes office yesterday, going to finish trimming it out
today and prepping it for paint.
All the office furniture is in the dining room, cramped quarters...
