The Indiana/ Utah game was very good, especially the second half. Lots of back and forth, with some key turnovers.

That QB from Indiana, Lagow, has a heck of an arm.

So I planned on cutting today at the wood lot. It's pretty windy today, and constant. Granted it was windier the other day when I went out, but I plan on dropping a tree or 2 the next time I'm in the woods. So I think I'll delay until tomorrow. It's supposed to be a less windy then.

It was ~63F when I left the house around 0530 temp dropped to around 53 throughout the day but the wind was kicking getting ready to load the stove.
It's odd when 53 with wind feels cold:D must've been the 70's we've had the past week or so

So, remember a while back that my local power company needs to trim/cut trees from our property, as well as several communities? Well, they want to cut one entire tall spruce tree from my land. Their letter they sent said that they trim trees when needed and that removal of trees is the last-ditch effort. Well, talking with them today, they are saying they need to cut that spruce down, and that they don't trim anymore because it's easier for them to simply cut the trees down.

I let him know what I thought of that. I also let him know that he's not the one that lives here and can have property values affected by removing trees.

Yes, it's a right of way for the power company, but the letter we received said the distance was 15' from the line, and per the guy I talked with, it's 40' from the center. That's a big difference.

So now we're on the naughty list and we'll be getting a letter.

My neighbor's and I, are on a unified front. This could be really big as there are hundreds of landowners that are being affected. White they only want to take 1 of my large trees down, I'm not going to just take what they say. One neighbor was told they will be taking 22 trees down. :bug:

I'm sure there will be more to post about this. The "trimming" will be occurring late winter to early spring.

I guess you live in suburbia where trees are a bit of a premium.
You can look at two ways:
they hack up the trees to give the lines clearance and you have more reliable power. The tree suffers and becomes an eyesore until you pay to take it down yourself.
or you just let them go crazy drop everything and you have minimal liability, a blank canvas to plant any type of tree you want that could take 15-30yrs before the power company comes banging on the next owner's door

Yes, we live in the burbs. We all have 1 acre or so in this area. The trees give us the privacy that we all bought into when we purchased the house. One of the arguments of the person I talked to was that these power lines feed the 2 large hospitals in the area and that they need reliable power. I told him that these large hospitals have their own backup generators that take care of that issue. He was shocked and didn't have any response to that.

40 feet seems excessive. Basod is spot on though. The ones they "trim" will be so unsightly you won't want them. images (1).jpg

I'll get an aerial pic. These are bigger high tension type lines. The tree I am speaking of is at least 30 feet away from the center of the line.

Ok Horkn, just read about the hi tension post above, but I already had this typed out, so here goes. Mind you, my thought focused on a small aspect of your previous post above. :)

I agree with Horkn, straight out of the gate.
But I thought to myself (in my little pea brain), if you had a standby gennie all wired up and ready to go, and the possibility of relying on it "regularly" because of questionable trees threatened service; what, as a large facility, would you prefer to be the case- trees on the line, or something going south on the standby and the lines not being back up?
Just a question bud, I assure you I'm not trying to stir anything up.

doesn't really matter they are priority customers for the line crews. You are talking to a guy that cuts trees on powerlines who knows nothing about how/who gets power restored first.
Hospitals, FD &PD stations, schools(for the shelter centers) first. If your neighborhood is modestly clear of trees it means you will get power back nearly as fast as the hospital provided your neighborhood isn't a bombscare after an ice/wind storm
