What's up today (bullchiting) thread.

Cleaned the chimney after work.

This was all it had after 1 full season.

Not bad. All this dark crap was from the cap.


So I celebrated by burning the first fire of the season in the quadrafire. It's 38° outside.

 

Great clean out. Burn hot and not much sticks.

 

Slightly punky beech uglies keeping the house warm.

70 inside, and a happy wife and dogs.

My wife had enough of the dark oak doors on the side of the bricks. She also painted the dark paneling above the mantle. I'll post up before and after pics when she's done with decorating.

That white paint vs dark wood sure lightens up the room.

 

Good monin... ... rained hard here most of the night. Badly needed. I'm sure most will just run off and not help the water table too much tho. It came too fast, but hey, we'll take it. The guessers are guessing it'll rain more this afternoon too. Perfect. Our son has been out of water for over a month now. Bet he was dancin' a jig last night...

Mornin' Hoarders, 40 here this a.m. with a strong NW wind and sporadic showers. Snowing not too far up the Trans Canada Hwy (NW) from here. 74 here in the cave burning chunky uglies. About to intake the bacon and eggs and then off to the shop to find something to entertain myself. Everyone have a great and safe day.........................

 

The wife and I are about to haul a couple of loads of basswood cut and split from my buddy's gf's house, also to get the splitter from her place and take it to his house. Then to haul another load of the primo stuff I have at his house.

At least a partial load of basswood will go to another friend of ours family for their outside fire pit that they will have going for trick or treat next weekend. We'll be there enjoying the fire all evening, so it's a win win. Plus, I hate seeing people buy firewood when I've got perfect campfire wood laying around.

It's all getting stacked on my patio this time.

One story concerning the blackbird is about St.Kevin, an Irish 7th century Saint who loved wildlife. The story goes on to say that the saint remained still for as long as it tookfor the eggs to hatch and the brood to fly the nest.

Among the Celts the blackbird is thought to be one of the three oldest animals in the world. The other two being the trout
and the stag. They are said to represent the water, air and earth.

Legend says that the birds of Rhiannon are three blackbirds, which sit and sing in the World Tree of the Otherworlds. Their
singing puts the listener in to a sleep or trance which enables her/him to go to the Otherworlds. It was said to impart mystic
secrets.

In Ireland in the nineteenth century, blackbirds were supposed to hold the souls of those in purgatory until judgement day. It was said that whenever the birds voices were particularly shrill, it was those souls, parched and burning, calling for rain. The rain always followed.

The whistle of the blackbird at dawn warned of rain and mist for the coming day.

There are thousands of Blacbirds flying around here. I can't get a picture of them all together. It's incredibly noisy outside.
