The cold front came through last night an the temp dropped to 60, we also received just over 0.50 inches of rain.

Tonight the temp is heading down to the low 40's.

Opened the E paper today. It has an article about our VA in Maine celebrating its 150 th year. It is the oldest VA in the system. I worked there and retired in 2000. To my surprise, there on the front page of the e edition was a picture of my Rn daughter with a veteran patient.

I've been just sitting here, reading the paper etc. and looked out, it was getting darker and darker, looked like nightfall. Then came a wind. Then outside temp dropped 10F. Then down came the rain. Don't have any idea how long it will last but we need every drop of it. I think it is just showers.

We just got a quick sprinkle from that line of storms, wish it was more.

I haven't, seen the news in a couple days now...my wife mentioned something about Obama making Sept 11 a national day of remembrance?
    anyone?

We ended up with .25" from that line Larry. The humidity is supposed to drop overnight. It was 92 here on Friday.

My canner almost looks identical but is a little newer. It holds seven quart jars or 14 pint jars. It was the best investment I have made for food preserving. I don't use it for fruits - just for fish, meat and veggies. I have thought of converting it to pressure weights but so far I just use the dial indicator. It means babysitting the cooker continually but worth the effort. the best stove to use is a propane or gas stove. It is easier to get the heat set for the pressure you want.

I don't know how much we did get. But I will say that it came down hard a few times. Now the sun is shinning. Nice end to the weekend.

Busy weekend at the workshop project. Got the paint on the walls, ceiling fans installed, doors and windows trimmed out. Still have to trim out the ceiling and walls.

And got the french door put together! Primary and secondary doors both operate flawlessly! I made it out of two single doors.
    I will have pics someday.....

I really would like a larger one. There is some good information on the net about removing the petcock and adding the stem and weight. I read a 10 psi weight is good, so it it jiggles and should run around 11 psi. The safety is on mine is a 20 psi. You are absolutely correct about watching it. The weight would eliminate that.

We got back home and my son and I had to get at cutting the grass at camp. We both had our mowers hustling. At 12 years old he is getting better every time he does it. He likes to drive the 44" Simplicity Broadmoor now. Has a steering wheel and is a better quality machine than the Troy built zero turn. But the Troy built is 50" and is much faster. Anywho we cut about 4-4.5 acres quick like. Time to let my sore legs relax now and enjoy a couple cold beers. My son and I are watching the Giants vs. Cowboys game. Giants currently up 7-6.

Kind of a slug today because we are celebrating NFL weekends again. :)

Seldom do we watch more than the Packers, Bears and the Vikes but were watching all we can today. Fall is almost upon us guys!

I did get over to my processing site and organized a little. Such a beautiful day I couldn't resist.

I'm super lucky to have a big supply of landscaping timbers available so I set up a couple pallets on 3 of them.

I bucked the locust I got a month ago and temporarily stacked it and the plum. With the apple I have bucked elsewhere, I should have about a face cord of the good stuff.

Some pics of the workshop's french door finished product. (The pull string for the light is hanging down in front of the right hand panel.)

Trimmed out window results. BTW, I got the windows from Menards for $82 and qualified for a rebate from power company for $70 each!

These are the ceiling fans I got....no rebate...$25 each!

    011.JPG

Yes, I painted the walls/ceiling semi-gloss for these tired old eyes to benefit from any reflected light!!
