Ugh. I wonder how the farmers crops are for the season with little rain. What can you guys report for your areas?

Looking good around here. It was a fairly normal year for rainfall for us.

I seem to remember Lukem had a pickup truck load of apples last year.

I tried out the old pressure canner today. It is not much but this canner can only hold 3 quarts at a time. I made raw pack beef stew and chicken stew. The small jars will be for taking out ice fishing this winter and heating on the Coleman camp stove. If we like the results, we will most likely get a larger new one.

I'm still chuckling about this morning.
Wife frantically wakes me up around 4am or so- "John! John, get up wa wa wa wa wa wa!!" I heard - The bear is on the deck!
I stumble into my pants and slippers, grab the 12g. and blunder to the back door. No bear.
I look at her, she looks at me and asks what I'm doing? Bear? No, my battery is dead, I need a jump.
Ugh. Cables in the truck and my car was completely iced over. Get cables, jump her car, back to bed. And then the motion sensor on the deck starts going off.
Bear!!...... no, neighbors cat.:rofl:

It's DRY in these parts! Haven't had measureable rain here for a few weeks. The hurricane forecast last weekend definitely screwed things up too. Many farmers lowered water levels in their reservoirs to lessen the chance of flooding and dam breaks because they were calling for 4-6" of rain. Well we got a sprinkle out of that system and no rain since. Irrigating around the clock pretty much

Can't like that at all. I like ice in a glass. That is about all the use I have for it! You must be burning every night now.

Not every night, but I did have the stove going last night. Walking into a warm house after the debacle was nice.

Cat knows not to run. Dog has no interest in a sitting cat. You'll have to chase it next time!

Poor dawg lives with 4 cats. That cat was almost identical to one of ours. She actually likes cats so no fault on her part. May have to start feeding her "mean bone" food so she could grow one.

Know what you mean. I have two labs and 6 Himalayan cats. They all get along. Seldom any acting out behaviors. If the cats stay off the dog beds, all is well.

I heard the statewide Farm Bureau report the other day and they said it is really spotty around the state, everything from better than normal to poor crop conditions.
Here locally the spring was fairly normal (maybe a lil on the wet side) and then it got real dry until the last 3-4 weeks...I think the rains came just in time to keep the harvest close to normal...but we will see for sure here pretty soon.

I've gotten a whopping 0.08" or rain in the last two weeks. Some areas of the state are something like 15" below normal (I think I'm around 10" below). Apples are small and many of the places that usually open for PYO are not doing that this year. The fruit growers got hit with a double-whammy this year - warm winter then hit with extremely cold temps (-21* here) as the trees were setting buds early. Then the extremely dry conditions this summer (which followed a very low snow total winter). Tough for any farmer in this state - although up north is better off rain wise.
