Great discussion here. Has anyone done the math to see what your making in the end - per hour - of your time invested?
A lot of interesting comments to your post value is what you think it is worth to you a Quality product will always sell ,I would be 100.00 delivered for that and it also depends on the time of year around me . I normally do not sell anymore but in January one of my saw shop customers asked if I had any "Dry wood " he had 2 cord delivered and it was so wet it would hardly burn I sold him a cord of 3 year old locust and oak mix 400.00 and they picked the totes of wood up at my shop (4 totes of stacked wood) my totes are cut down to hold 1/4 cord each . He was so happy with the wood he asked if I would sell him more for next year . I also split my firewood larger for heating and it is cut 20 inches long so most people do not like it that big ( 5-7 inch splits) . As Chud said in his post stay away from the math !! if you enjoy it and can put some spending money in your pocket it is worth it( also you save on that gym membership ) I should sell some my wife says I am a little disturbed with my stockpile JB
Have you loaded, delivered, wheelbarrowed, stacked four face cords on a two hundred mile run? $1,120 before tips. Average $303 per face cord. How about you?
The great thing about selling firewood is that you can have your own business model and be your own boss. I share how I price and deliver my firewood as a sole dude in the Nashville region. I don't tell others how to run their operation, I incorporate good practices from others and keep my mouth shut.
The best part about that picture is that you do not see the other 12 bags to the right side and the 35 totes filled up by my shop and the 12 cord shed with the dry firewood in it ( I am burning out of that now and last but not least the other 11 bags that I am using for the shop ( yep might have a little problem with firewood )
I looked and I just don’t see the problem unless that field is wife garden or something how do you like the bags
Our businesses are run much differently... and I'm not about to making this a johnson measuring contest.
Humility? Some feel good about themselves giving their labor and equipment investment away for below minimum wage. I earn a living selling firewood. Sorry that you don’t.
$285 humility bucks + tips per face cord. I am such a loser. I seem to only post to negative people’s replies lately. Have zero respect for those that don’t have a clue about how to make a living selling firewood. Pretty easy if you have the ability to do hard physical labor 70 hours a week.
Weird! Plenty of firewood sellers in the Nashville area selling their garbage for $60-100 a face cord and post the same advertisement for years on end.
Your business model needs some financial investigation to see if you could make more working at Walmart.
My business model sucks. Purchased three face cords today and re-spilt and stacked it. And wheelbarrowed out another on my property from cutting all day yesterday. So about a $1,200 day. Then loaded for tomorrow’s deliveries. Nashville CL firewood if you care to search. I’ll post pictures of my deliveries tomorrow afterwards. I do all this on my own; no tractors or high school or college cheap labor.
Its gotta be tough patting yourself on the back that hard. How about a video or picture, i wanna see how THAT'S done.
That isn't what this forum is for. Glad you have a $$$$ market for your firewood. Your business model works for you, big deal. Some of us like to just be outside, enjoying the time. So what if jrider has help, he works a full time job also. So what if we have a tractor or nice splitter to help the process, we celebrate each other's success, not always putting people down... You said yourself you had no respect for those that can't make a living selling firewood. I have no respect for someone who started out claiming they were cutting all this wood by hand, then later admitted they were buying a good bit of it. And selling short loads. I've done this for a long time, and I'm glad when my fellow hoarders gets a new saw, splitter, tractor or builds a new shed. You, sir, don't seem to be able be happy for others. Remember, the Good Lord said pride goes before the fall. I'm glad you have the success you have...
