I want to open up more space in my wood storage area by elimanating some of the long lines of well seasoned, single stacked wood. This fall I'm expecting to have another 25 to 30 trees to process and I want more room to single stack the new stuff for the next 3 or 4 years. I'm thinking about condensing long rows into stacks on squares of 4 pallets. Any thoughts on how to stack? Interlocking rows some how. Pictures would be great, I'm a visual learning kind of person. Thanks!
If the wood is stacked indoors, I have to ask why even use pallets? Stack right on Mother Earth or on cement or whatever the floor is.
I stack mine just like this...2 rows wide leaving an inch or two (or 4) between the rows...every now and then I take a split and put right in the middle, half in each row, just like OhioStihl has right on the end of his stack there. It ties the rows together for much more stability...you can stack a short or ugly on the ends of the "tie split" to keep the stack go up nice n level.
I have a low ceiling on my wood shed, roughly 7 feet. I put down some #2 gravel and removed the pallets. Wood stays dry, but I gained a few inches of height and less walking hazards from pallets.
It depends on how much room you want to take up and materials you have on hand. If you can keep the pallets off the ground they will last a long time. If your wood is dry, stack it tight. The first shed is 7 1/2 ft wide, 14ft deep and about 6 1/2 high on low side. It holds 5 cords, 9 rows of 18" wood, with scrap OSB on top of pallet floor, next two raxks are built from 50 x 50 pallets, so they hold 1 full cord per side. Fairly cheap to build.
After many years of double rows on pallets I’m moving to a woodshed. These rows are each about 1.25 cords and have sat there for 2-3 years waiting to be burned. I moved up to foam pallets that don’t rot and you can’t step through.
Can't say it is the BEST way, but having very similar materials on hand as milleo that's pretty much what my stacks look like.
Thanks I think thats from 2014....I have a lot more wood and once it is 3 or 4 years dry I move what I burn for the winter into the garage...
Has anyone heard of a website going around that you pay 25.00 a year and they are supposed to email you when free firewood is available from a few companies?! Thanks guys
Mine is two rows with pallets up on blocks. Those pallets are around 4-5 years old. I have firewood, not pretty wood.
