I honestly don't know. This house is about 80 years old so it's well before my time. I suspect it was used for exterior walls, only for appearance. It looks like regular block on the inside and I don't think the block below grade looks that way on the exterior.
My great Uncles house in Tenn. has that style of exterior brick. It was a home built of wood but my Aunt hated storms so the house had a block exterior put on to make her feel better. It looks like the block is cast with only one or two designs.
http://www.searshomes.org/index.php/tag/cinder-block-machine/ Some years back I remember seeing a early 1900's Sears catalogue reprint (huge, like a big city phonebook) that had ads for that for sale. Also there's several big old houses several miles from me on rural farmsteads that are built with those blocks. One is huge, looks like a 3 story mansion is located in SW IA,cant remember what 2 lane US highway its on or town its near, but I will recognize it immediately whenever going down through there to visit relatives in NW MO.
Hey Thistle, your pretty handy. I would sit on the back porch of that house and drink beer and ponder the block design. Now it all makes since. FYI: I don't know which hand cart is the best.
Machria could you give us an update on the cart? Hows it working for you, do you like it, is it worth the money? Im thinking about buying one this weekend and would like a first hand review from someone thats using it for firewood like Im going to.
It's absolutely perfect. I wish I had ordered it a few years ago as it saves tons of work! And has saved my back!~ I used to use a regular wheel barrel and also the 2 wheeled firewood cart, and both take a lot of muscle to push or pull. The gorilla cart is a piece of cake to pull, all the weight is on the 4 wheels instead of your back. I've pulled it thru the woods (pretty thick woods) with no problems, goes over bumps, holes, small logs without issue. It's also pretty tough and holds a heck of a lot of wood. I give it two full thumbs up. My old 2 wheel cart I give 1/2 a thumb.
I don't know why but I just got an alert that someone had replied to this. Between this last reply and many before that I missed the rest of this thread. LOFL Hope you like the Gorilla Machria. BrianK, I have never seen that motobarrow?
They sell kits to motorize store bought wheelbarrows: http://motobarrow.com I always thought they were a cool concept.
Yes. I checked them out later. A good idea, and cheaper than a Muck Truck. http://www.mucktruckamerica.com/MAX-DUMPER.html
1/3 of my home is concrete block. I find it a bit hard to heat but it's fantastic and breaking high sustained winds!
There are a couple guys from Canada in our club that are fantastic at breaking high sustained winds as well!!!!
Northern tool has a similar cart on sale now for about $100. Worth every cent. I have a smaller version which I have rebuilt. Goes over lawn and garden so easily.
I like all of those carts, I have a few of them. The best are the ones the kid down the street loads and hauls from the back stacks to the house!
