I built this 372 clone with a hyway popup bb kit A couple year's ago Then mounted it in a alaskan mill And never used it. It sat in a unheated barn It had regular pump gas with ethanol. I got it out and it would barely pull over So I tore it down. The aluminum cases had corroded And the bearings were full of a caulk like Putty. No rust on the crank or bearings So I cleaned and flushed the case. It freed the bearings up The are very smooth now. I've since ran 10 tanks through it No issue's at all it's a strong saw I mixed 8 gallons of efree for my saws.
Ever do an ethanol fuel test? I had heard about taking a glass jar putting some water in and marking the water line with a sharpie. Then put some fuel in and shake it up. If there’s ethanol the water will be higher than the original mark once it settles and sits a while. Haven’t tried it, but heard it works.
The stihl dealer here tested fuel And even though it's supposed to be 10% max He had some over 30% I just left old mix in it from a job I did All my other saws are in a heated garage And stored dry.
I think I finally got rid of the off of idle bog. New after market carb .... $20 fix to cure hours of aggravation . I’ll know for sure Saturday
Been dealing with the 572 running poorly but haven’t gotten into it other than to talk about it and have it checked on the CST, with no flags coming up. Yesterday I did a vacuum on the primer of the carb, sat! Moved to pressure test and got the above results Actually pretty happy I found it, or something Explains how it was running
Odd that new saw with less than 10 tanks would do this. All VP Non E fuel and XP oil. Thinking this crap was a stow away between the tank and the carb from manufacture Cleaned the carb and hold pressure like a champ
Seems ok, no bogging, but don’t seem seem to wrap up enough. I think I need to lean up the high side. Starts nice. So it’s damm sure better than it was.
Got a free mower running It has several cups of water in the tank and the lines had crap in them Runs perfect mowed the yard. If these set a while the plastic tanks will pull moisture Just unhook the fuel line at the pump And pressurize the tank It will purge the water and crap out.
Replacing the low frequency amp in a Klipsch 2.1 speaker system. Also a few other caps and resistors that are a know issue. Toasty!
I always liked working on audio equipment. I used to build custom speakers. I haven't done much of that stuff in years though. I always enjoyed having a system that sounded like 5th row center at a concert.
Got the amp/power supply boards fixed. System sounded good for about 30 seconds, then I turned it up a bit. Distortion from the sub. Dammit. Replacement driver on order. Tonight’s job:
The low frequency sub amp was a problem for these systems and burned out regularly. There’s a guy that sells refurb kits that replace that board and a few other pieces on the power supply board (that got damaged from the heat of the toasted amp/board). And they used an inferior foam surround on the 6.5” subwoofer. I inspected mine and it appeared ok when I bought the kit. He also sells refoam kits and I passed on that. After firing it up, mine tore the whole way around. Most people’s disintegrate completely. Screenshot: And the cooling fan kit he sold me is not working. https://youtube.com/shorts/s2t8Axt9oLk?feature=share Plan is to try a 12v supply in place of the current 7.5v one. Did a full carb rebuild on a Yamaha 600cc sport bike. I’ve been moonlighting at the bike shop.
Digging through old totes I found a new 272 hyway popup piston kit and a 288 piston kit They must've come with parts I bought from someone. I just ordered 2 266/268 popup and 2 272 popup Piston kits from hyway They are only 23.00 or so if you buy from the company I like the one in a 266 I run all the time Need to find the time to finish These and 2 288s and for a neighbor another 288 and 272.
Got a 266 in from kansas It's a 84 model The choke lever was popped out of socket I'll refresh everything Before using it.
There are several places that sell the re-foam kits. I've done several over the years, even my beloved EV Interface Bs. I've often heard other speakers and thought they might be better, but after getting home and sitting down to listen, I have always ended up satisfied with my EVs. I find it hard to justify spending thousands to replace something that I find rather pleasing. I had purchased some Polk towers when the foam surrounds on the EV's failed and they sound pretty good, but... I guess my ears have been tuned into the EV's over the years. I had purchased them new in 1978.
I've watched a bunch of videos about surround replacement. Some of those I feel are straight up hacks doing it. The one method that I buy into is removing the drivers dust cap and properly centering the voice coil in the gap. Then gluing the new surround. That's pretty invasive surgery and I'm not sure I wanna. Glad my main listening speakers don't have the kind of surrounds that rot. I bought equipment as a way to establish credit when I was living at home, and still in high school, so I didn't skimp. Glad I did as I still enjoy that quality gear. I grew up around good sound as my parents were music lovers. They bought a Marantz receiver when I was a young pup and they still use it. Had Ultra Linear speakers that I remember well. Looked like this: I also remember the day he burned them in a huge junk pile. I sold them my old Polk 10b's when I bought the K's. I've grown accustomed to them over the years and continue to be satisfied, for the most part.
