100% correct on all the above. I have two saws currently that he ported and its looking like two more this year. I have a sickness lol.
I worked on a 394 with a well used 18" bar on it I asked why He said it's to cut willow tree's on River and creek banks He has contracts to cut in city limits Made absolutely no sense to me Any 50/70cc saw would've done that job.
Got this Makita 6401 last summer for $20 Ran nice but the case gasket was burnt out under the muffler, so it leaked oil anytime it wasn’t horizontal Splitting the case anyway so new bearings New case gasket and some motoseal New seals, FW New seal PTO side oiler back in Spark maker Done for the day at the brake.
That old girl has some mag rot. My Makita did as well from a previous owner leaving palm tree saw dust all packed in it. I sand blasted it all out, filled with JB weld, used my pencil grinder to smooth everything out then painted it. Its name is Rotten Raspberry because of it. Lol.
Thank you. It was huskihl 's idea. I was just going to run it as a beater. Now its a kind of a ported GTG toy / camp fire wood cutter with a vintage Remington roller nose bar. It's pretty fun.
Yes sir. This is Kevin testing on it after his magic. Pretty impressive for a 39cc saw. Its converted to .325 x .050 now. Its running 3/8 lp Stihl PS3 chain in his vid.
Still has some odds and ends to go. Other than a new fuel filter, and the stuff above, haven’t done anything to it. And some cleaning. Pretty good for a $20 saw.
I just noticed what a fancy bench you have. Is that a repurposed item, or did you have it made specially for saw repairs?
I have not had much to share in quite some time but sure have appreciated all the good content here on FHC. I've been looking for project and found this non running ms440 on craigslist. I'll try to take more photo's next time, but it had an ugly scored up piston and cylinder. The plastic sure is faded, but I'm ok with that. New meteor piston and cylinder, bearings, case gasket ,fuel lines and rubber parts. I've never split a case before, so it was a good learning project. I tried overhauling the carb, but it was not OEM, and I couldn't get it to idle, so i splurged on a new Stihl carb. So far so good with a tank of fuel through it.
From left to right: Husky 545 that won't run. Put in new carb gaskets. Ms201t that needs a broken clutch spring replaced (doing all 3) Echo cs-4600 leaking bar oil now and needs a new bar and chain. Already fixed the non start issue because fuel line was yanked off carb due to utter disintegration of anti-vibration buffers. 372xp parts for sale that is leaking bar oil through the crank gase gasket right under the muffler. Need to split case and replace gasket and probably use some rtv.
