Actually having similar results myself although they are putting out good heat. Ash is more than I did expect about similar to a blend pellet for me. Both stoves love cubex as that is the only pure hardwood I have burned in them anything else has been a blend. High end softwoods burn well LaCrete’s Vermont’s and especially the latest discovery Marta’s Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok...first impressions....they smell great! Like fresh cut plywood or something, they are supposed to be a 50/50 blend but rep won't give up the fiber in it....pellets are all on the small side...ash is light grey and very fine...by far the finest I've burned this season....ash volume is definitely the lowest I've burned this season but I also haven't been running any kind of top shelf stuff either, quite the opposite actually....these are a definite keeper at the right price
tt....this bag has been sitting at his place for a while....I opened it and it looks the same as I can remember....long pellets on the brownish side
Very dark ash and heavy in the P43. It really doesn't like these too much. That stove was constantly running last night to keep the house at 69. Shouldn't be doing that since it isn't that cold / windy. I do notice that the tinkle of the pellets seems to indicate that not much is going thru the auger at a time. I wonder if the pellets are "sticky"? I'll be putting TSC's on top and leaving the Oakie Plats for the big stove. Basement stove thinks they are good ash-wise. Weird that the P61a had a problem last night so the basement was at 66* this morning (should have been about temp was set at 73 and it usually is pretty close to the thermometer I have set up). There were no error codes. I moved the knob a jot toward 75 and the stove started right up. First time I've had problems with that - coincidence or a pellet issue? Stay tuned . . .
Hey!! Not so fast buddy!! I be stopping at HD on the way home and stuffin 25 bags, Then another tomorrow. Taking the pickem up over on Saturday to fetch another. Gonna look a whats available(local) for good chit and likely put a ton on hold JIC. Played it way too close this season, But collage funding took priority.
Err, HD only had GS's........ Just nipped a few for now. Surprised no chows!! Wondered the store and didn't see any or I'd have snagged the tonnage!! Venture continues........... Stopping at Lowes on the way home, Swinging over to TSC on Saturday. I also sent an email off to Agway JIC. Like to keep it local, But if need be, I'll travel a bit. Won't be happy till 3 tons join the ton of sets already in the kitty!!
Kind of why I snagged some. But, They are old stock from depot NY. So not much to say. I saw the 3333 plant code, But couldn't remember how to decipher the date code at the store. CRS ya know!! Turns out they are 2 seasons old!! Nov 17th of 2016...............
Matra's loaded in the upstairs stove and Okie Plats in the cellar stove. Found some Matra's in stock and will be heading out first thing in the morning to grab some, hopefully it won't be like the release of the Iphones with a crowd waiting to grab them. They are more expensive at this place but so Impressed I am going to pay the extra cash as I feel their burn performance is par with DF's and with that said they are $50 cheaper than DF's.
I had to switch to Ligmetics. I was buying Scot Linkletter pellets as I know his family, and feel it is good to support forum members when a person can. But the places I have been buying them have said his factory burned down and cannot get pellets there anymore.. Someone else said the pellet plant in Corinth did as well, but that sounded kind of far fetched. Any truth to those stories Scot?
Hmmm, that would be odd as the only plants I know that burned were Corinth as you said and O'Malley down in Virginia.
With this cold spell, the LG Satisfaction were yanked out the hopper and replaced with Logik-ê hwd No problem heating the shack now
It did not sound right to me, but Scot is in the business so he would know. Definitely a shortage now, at least in my immediate area. This is the straw that broke the camel's back for me in terms of heating my home via pellets though. My junk stove has to run full throttle to keep up with the cold snap, and is noisy when it does so. I have cords of dry wood sitting in a shed ready to burn, so to spend good money on pellets only to freeze seems kind of silly. I have a wood/coal stove kicking around, but it is a boiler. A furnace would work better for me, so I was thinking of converting it to a furnace instead. I can buy a furnace for $1100, but it would seem to me, converting my boiler to a furnace would a lot cheaper then just buying one. Just add a plenum to the outside of the boiler jacket, a fan, and a thermostat and I could have heat in the basement, with the majority of the heat ducted upstairs.
Do you have access to coal up there? If you do, might be worth looking into a coal stove of sorts. Harman makes a direct vent (DVC500) coal stove that vents like a pellet stove which may be an option for you. I've been keeping my eye out for used one and as soon as I find one in my price range I'm probably going to pull the trigger on it. The problem is I haven't seen any used ones for sale yet... lol
