At the GTG we had on Oct 4th, the 362 beat the 665 in the 10" Cant. With about 14 witnesses. Same chain.. :D

    Let it go ;)

They didn't fuel and oil it and show you how not to start it before they let you escape ?

    Is $648 a decent price for a NIB 362C-M/20 ?

Is it through your dealer? Are you going to have a warranty?

Under $650 is a good price, if it's brand new (in box).

    Dealer,warrantee, 6.25% tax on the list $750
I'm kinda in a similar situation as the OP.
4 cord log load coming this week and if there are any big ones like I had last year I don't have the 44o/25 to borrow

Only have an almost 20 year old 026PRO/16 . I move right along with it but whittling away on the big boys gets old quick.

Others like to joke, but the 362C-M is a good saw. Will pull a 25" (with skip tooth) bar and owns a 20" bar.

Interestingly, the dealer did fuel it up. I did not know until I got home, and by the time I figured that out they were closed. I called the next day and said "Why was their fuel in the saw....?" And they said we fuel it with a fresh fuel mixed with the Stihl oil for you. They also threw in the deal a case of Stihl oil. I was in a hurry (lunch time at work) so I paid, grabbed stuff and ran out door so I didn't give them any time to explain.... Anyway, yesterday I got an email from Stihl confirming the warranty and explaining I had a "Double warranty" for getting the Stihl oil with it. So I guess the dealer did all that for me, just never told me cause I was in a hurry.

As for show me how to start? You kidding, put the "control switch" in start position, pull the cord. Easiest start of any motor I ever had to deal with... the Mtronic is pretty nice....

$648 is a great price. I paid full price along with a bunch of extra's (chains,25" bar, oil, case....) , but I got a 10% discount on entire bill. So not sure exactly what I paid for each item...

Yea, just make sure they are a legit dealer so you have warranty.... as mentined, my dealer regi's it for me.... I'm guessing they all do that with Stihl ?

Bill does sound like he is in same boat I was in. Normally ok with a small saw, but every once in a while you encounter a big-un that just ruins your day. I actually started passing on some big stuff for that reason. It was killing me leaving a huge chunk of wood, just imagining how many splits would come out of it, so Isaid I have to get a bigger saw that can handle them now and then. I haven't mounted and run the 25" yet, but I did get the full skip chains for it. And after making some cuts with the 362, I'm 100% sure it will have NO PROBLEM whatsoever running that 25"er and blasting thru some bug stuff. It was cutting red oak like butter.

If the dealers are following the rules, you should never get a product that hasn't been fueled and tested before leaving the shop.

Dealers (of anything, not just saws) never follow the "rules". They sell anything and everything, most don't even know how to use or know anything about the products they sell these days. I was surprised to hear they fueled and ran it. I had them swap the 18" bar that was on it on display for a 20" bar. So they took it in back to swap bars, fueled it and started it. I was wondering why it took so long to swap the bar.

Incidentally, they asked why I had come to them to purchase a Stihl product (aka how I knew they sold them...). They told me they recently put up a big lit up STIHL sign on the front of the building, and their sales of Stihl product have doubled.

Sounds like they have a little to learn yet about the OPE business. If you are going to sell a premium priced product in today's market, you're gonna have to do more than hang a sign and put it on a shelf with a price tag hanging off it.

If you don't know anything about your product other than what color it is and the price, then you have no advantage/chance against the big box retail giants. Selling on price and a brand name is their specialty.

I love my MS 362-CM! I too got the double warranty at time of purchase even though it was a pro level saw. Starts everytime, cuts wood like a bat out of hell and that was before I Muffler Mod'd it!

My dealer has a boat load of the last generation 362's for 650.00.

I did choose the M Tronics and couldn't be happier, after breaking it in Im thrilled.
This is my first stihl after many Box store saws. granted my 455 Rancher has sawed felled and noodled everything that I throw at it. It just takes allot longer.

What I love about the M Tronics is it starts with in two pulls !! And is a spinning SOB.

Granted I may not be a long term example but after four full cord, it's my two cents.

Buy what you can afford ride what you like just keep the shiney side up !! O^O

    Rains,..,

Ok, did some "real" cutting today with the 362. She cuts' real Purdy like! Can't believe how fast it cuts, I really should have picked a bigger saw up a few years ago. Today was a Sandy leftover tree. Still a bunch more where it came from.

I'd say the 362 cuts twice as fast as the Echo cs-400. Nothing scientific, but it makes a big difference.

FYI, I said I would report back after using the new saw a bit...

I cut up a 30" Maple with the 362c-m via the 25" bar and suggested "Full Skip" chain on it. First, it cut like butter, second the saw did not hesitate or bog down whatsoever with the bar completely berried. I LOVE this setup, save me hours and a huge amount of work compared to what I would have done in the past to accomplish this beast of a tree. One thing I noticed with the full skip chain, it seems to throw out very big chips, they almost look like I was noodling. I did not notice a speed difference (aka slow down) with the full skip vs the non-full skip chain. I thought with less cutters it would slow the cut a bit, but I think it clears out the debri/chips faster which in turn allows it to take deeper cuts?? Do I have that right?

Thanks for all the help in making this selection guys! The saw is amazing. Easy to start, easy to work on (change bar/chain), easy to fill, easy to pull cover off to change the warm to cold airflow around carb setting thingy, great anti-vibration system. Seems to be good on fuel. The only thing I need to do is adjust the oil flow, it does not seem to be using enough chain lube...
