Obligatory post... the saw will take 10 tanks to reach full power.

I read that in the manual.... that will likely be sometime at the end of this winter, or sometime next winter! ;)

Manufacturer recommends (read EPA requires) 50 parts gas to one part oil for fuel. Most here agree 40 to 1 is better. Either way...use a good quality synthetic.

I run 32:1 in everything. I'm not say it's imperative, but the high quality full synthetic oils don't leave as much carbon as cheaper dino oils.

    VERY funny!! :p

Sometimes too much oil is not a good thing. Stihls don't mind extra oil?
And what brand do you guys find "good quality"? I know my outboard brands very well, but for all my small 2 stroke tools, I usually use echo's oil.

So I tried out the saw today on a small tree (10" round, 20' long). First, I can't believe how nice this saw cuts, impressive! Cut through 10" of red oak like it was a stick of butter. Wish I had bought the saw 2 years ago for Sandy, woulda made life much easier.

I noticed the saw seems to be smoking a lot (exhaust) at idle. I'm wondering if they program the computer (m-tronic) to run rich during the break in period? Or am I just not used to the way the Stihls run/smoke? I know many outboards today are preprogrammed to inject extra oil during the first 50 to 100 hours. Anyone know if this is the case?

Quite a few good oils. Some of the more popular include belray h1r, Motul 800, maxima k2.

You'll be hard pressed to over-oil a saw. I run 40:1 with a top shelf synthetic (read: expensive oil ) and I do recommend more oil than the factory 50:1 spec.

image.jpg Pic of my new 362 R C-M in my ( old) Mini) . Have always run synthetic oil. Stihl doubles the warranty if you use their silver synthetic. Only 4 or 5 tankfulls thru my saw so far. Long time since I have had a new saw. This ones great by me. Now when is the new 661 C-M going to be available?... :sherlock:

That's awesome deacon!! Mini's were made to haul chainsaws!! Actually, the mini is kinda like a chainsaw case with wheels.

Where did you hear they double the warranty...? And, how would they verify such a thing? But I'm all for it, that is, using whatever oil Stihl recommends.

    Here
    http://www.stihlusa.com/information/warranty-service-info/engine-oil-double-warranty/

When I bought my 441 the dealer told me I could not double the warranty since it was a pro saw. I looked online and found that some people said they got a their warranty doubled. I emailed stihl and they said that the saw was eligible for a double warranty but I had to buy the oil at the time of purchase. I told them I would have bought a 6 pack of oil if I would have known. They hooked me up with a rep and the rep got a hold of the dealer. I went back and bought oil and got the double warranty.

I was going to tell you to wait on the 661 to come out. You need a 90cc saw to pull a 25" preferably ported:popcorn:

32:1 klotz, maxima, motul, or belray. Lucas semi synthetic is great oil for around $9 a quart. That mixes 8 gallons of fuel at 32:1.
