My first year of serious hoarding to heat my house I had every load remembered. When I got it, where, what it was, how much. I even wrote it down. Fast forward 3 years, and I can only tell you about the good scores that was mostly one type of wood. I resorted to just piling it up on the back of my property, to CSS at a later date. I am ashamed to say that I let 2 cords of pine go to waste, and I still have rounds from 2 years ago that need splitting yet. New stuff just keeps appearing. That is not really a problem. I am pulling splits out of my dry stacks now, and most of it, except for the only black Locust score I ever had, I can't remember when and where I got it. It all seems to be a blur. I have fun hoarding, it is like finding money on the side of the road, just some of it is really heavy. I feel like I get carried away sometimes, and know the wife is getting annoyed because the honey do list is on the back burner. Recently I got 4 loads of ash, 4 loads of oak, and 5 loads of black birch. All needs to be split and stacked. I still look on marketplace everyday for another score. I can honestly say I am a firewood hoarder. It's been fun so far, and thanks to all you guys who have helped me out. Sorry about the little ramble on, trying to stay awake at work, and avoid the political BS for the most part.
It’s fun for sure, and hoarding firewood is a great hobby as it keeps you in shape, provides heat, and doesn’t cost much money. However, without taking certain measures it can become addicting. Make sure to keep the wife happy. I had to stop going on FB Marketplace and CL for similar reasons to you. I got up to 38 full cords and was out of control. Always looking for the next fix. My wife and both kids commented that all I do is cut firewood. I don’t sell any, so I thought of what they said and it was true. I would suggest getting an additional hobby your wife enjoys. We just started watching a lot of finance videos with Dave Ramsey. Did out a new budget, came up with a long term plan, etc. Of course I had to mention how my wood “hobby” saves us money and fit into the plan perfectly. Gotta balance life’s wants and needs. Don’t want to be a single divorced guy collecting firewood
A lot of this sounds familiar. It is addicting. Keep it in check though. As much as i hate to admit it im an excessive hoarder! Ms. buZZsaw says i have a hoarding problem, but i dont have a problem with it. Enjoy your firewood and keep the great threads coming Pricey!
Yep, been there done that. The memories of spending all spare time hauling wood in to process and watching CL. Still watch CL and MP some, but not hauling much in as we have more wood at my friends place than we can get CSS before it goes south. Still try to spend a weekend day (half to two-thirds) with wood. Need to try and step up the home projects this winter and get a handle on them.
I used to always be told I had a photographic memory. I used to pull all sorts of information from my feeble brain that somehow got in there without any attempt to memorize. One of my favorite stories I may have posted on here but the gist of it was a chess club tournament, which I won with no losses and no draws. For several meetings after the tournament guys would go over different games. One guy kept bragging that he actually had a won game against me except for one move he made wrong which allowed me to win. I got fed up and went over and asked him to show me, which he proudly did. Ha! The position he showed was wrong. But I was forced to prove it and I did by bringing out the score cards. This brought on many comments, like how could I possibly remember so many moves. So then I commenced to play over every move of my games (somewhere around 20) with 2 or 3 guys holding the scorecards to make sure if I were right or wrong. Not a problem! So for years I could tell in every stack where the tree was that the wood came from. Now fast forward to today. I can barely remember getting out of bed this morning. My memory is not all gone but my recall seems to be shot... But I do know we have wood to burn.
hoarding and processing, gotta finish the job I started taking pics of stacks ( helps to have references in the photo) with a camera that put the date on the photo It's not all that hard to add text to a photo in post either.
I'm right there with you... I used to remember stuff from almost every day of my life, but much has slipped away... Heating with wood makes it all OK though... Keeping me young...
