I chatted with my animal management crew this morning. We had a cold snap, which prompts calls from folks regarding dogs left outside in extreme cold. they told me those are common, and so are folks complaining that ranchers are leaving cattle, goats and such out in the elements. One asked if they would ask the farmer to put blankets on his cattle. This is a county with a large university. I suspect most of these calls come from folks with advanced degrees.
Bahahahaha.....this is a joke right? I dont know what kind of cold snap you're talking about, like how cold... I have an idea though...how bout the geniuses who are making these calls be the volunteers to go out and put blankets on the cows. I'd pay to see that with my cows! It'd be time for sure!
Uh cows didn't come until loooooong after the dinosaurs were around plus dinosaurs liked it warm....sorry I couldn't let this slide.
Funny I see cows out grazing in single digits all the time here. Even when you can clearly see the barn door is open they'll still go outside. Never seen a cow with a blanket. There's a stable about 6 miles away that blankets their horses but those are throughbreed race horses.
I live in the middle of many ranches, 100's of cows, no blankets. We are FREQUENTLY at and below zero, and add 30mph sustained wind it's way below zero wind chill. A few herds of wild horses roam loose here, no blankets. There is one hobby farm out there that breeds and compete's horses = big $$$ thoroughbreds, rarely I will see a horse with a blanket there, I was led to believe that is for after a workout or something similar. Interesting, I don't know though I do remember hearing that name. Maybe different names for same thing or Arby's renamed it. Would not imagine my parents buying me a coffee shake as a child, but, who knows
