DSCN0844.JPG My homemade splitter. Has a Honda engine now. Briggs got real tired and got a screaming deal on two Hondas. When using boom for bigger rounds just have to get splitter level or boom will always go to low side and give you a real good headache. DSCN0844.JPG

I went into the shop after lunch and started making headway on my splitter. It was killing me having my new parts there and not doing anything, so the wifey did stuff on her own I did some more to the splitter:D.

1.JPG IMG_0184.jpg Dave if you are planning on a log lift, or even think you may want one do it at this stage. My lift was an afterthought and probably would of have been the type that lifts up and then becomes the table. I still like the way the boom turned out as it sure beats the heck out if picking up the bigger rounds or splitting with the beam in the vertical position.

I very rarely will do anything the size of the log you have on your splitter:eek:, not saying I wont though. I'm trying to keep mine as compact as possible but with plenty of power, I just don't have a lot of storage room. Usually, when I do split I have a few of the neighbors close by and a buddy who is powered by Beer:drunk:, He has a 35 year old strong back so he will help me do the lifting if need be! The splitter will most likely "never" leave my yard, thats why it has the simple wheel configuration vice an axle for towing. There is "NO WAY" I could compete with some of the big boys on this forum, I'm just a home owner in a neighborhood who loves his wood stoves:cool:. I do enjoy splitting by hand and the excersize, but I just cannot do it anymore after back surgeries:(.

The are available on ebay (price has gone up since my purchase a few years ago)

it's called a Loadhandler great for hauling mulch too - get the LH3000(larger model) it has pillow block bearings and a heavier shaft - the cheaper one will unload mulch, never had a load of red oak on it though. If you try to unload sand/loam with the smaller one the shaft will flex and pinch on the tailgate - but I've unloaded 100's of truckloads of mulch(used to deliver back on the farm) with them.

Oh and don't get one if you're worried about scuffing your tailgate paint and you need a plastic bedliner for it to slide

Funny, I own the Huskee and my logging buddy owns the Lickity split. But I have his here at the house while he has mine at his place. We do all his plus the wood he sells at his place while I just try to keep up with my demand. To go 2.jpg Splitter.jpg

This is the Swisher 22 ton which ran out of gas in the middle of shearing a knarly chunk. It has a plastic hydro holding tank and no filter. It has only stalled once doing an impossible knot but admittedly, was being run by a couple of beginners at the time. IMG_20131224_171304_583.jpg IMG_20131224_171344_038.jpg
