My pop passed back in Aug 2015. Luckily I inherited his splitter. Unfortunately some douchebag stole it out of my yard last week.
Not only do I ignore the diameter specified in the manual, yesterday I ignored the dire warning about towing it on the roads. It actually made it the 13+ blocks from my house to the big maple and back, without exploding or maiming anybody. My faith in the HF warning label guys is completely shattered. And by the way, all the doom and gloom prophets about the quality of HF can consider yourselves vindicated. After three seasons, I suffered my first failure, the tip of the rubber cover on the valve handle came off! Would you believe the garbage they peddle from China these days! My son and I brought home two trailer loads of maple yesterday, all split and ready to stack
My dad bought this splitter in the 70's. It has split a lot of wood and has never let me down. Love the work tables on it.
I will add my little speeco to the list. She may be small but it is way better than me trying to split by hand.
Here is a splitter I bought new as a pull type and remodeled it somewhat. See if you can find the changes it has gone through! Has been in use for over 10 years as is. Log lifts, a real back saver! Front of the splitter (we call it the "TERMITE" cause it eats wood!). Control valves for the log lift, wedge and elevator. Elevator can dump in the bed of the truck or swing 90 degrees to load another truck or trailer. Passenger side, under the wheel barrow. The engine, pump and tank. I had to disconnect the elevator as it caused the fluid to run way to hot. The bed of the truck used to dump, but someone used the hitch pin for the cylinder somewhere else one day and I have failed to replace it.
I freaking love my black diamond splitter. I have the 30 ton model, never a lick of issue with it. Wanting to buy a 35 ton model just to have... lol
Homemade job from a buddy 500$ and earned it's keep this year. I need to tighten up the darn wheel bearings and likely grease them. A bit of play. Makes me nervous. Previously had a hf electric splitter. Broke a weld. It will get fixed, someday. I miss splitting at night in the garage.
Mine is a repurposed homemade woodsplitter my father made in the 1970's. last year I rebuilt it so it could be mounted on my Wallenstein Log Trailer so I do not need to lift rounds, added a four-way splitting head, and can split over a trailer so no throwing wood.
