    Here's one my Ecoboost from a couple of years ago when I was going to visit Loon. Highway driving 60m/hr....and a tailwind ;)
    [IMG]

    Around 10L/100km (23.5 MPG) is a pretty common summer mileage for my truck with the 3:31 rear end. On this trip I had been to the cottage and back with the family and all our gear including an ATV in the box.
    Conversions:
    56.1L = 14.8 US Gal
    568Km = 352 Miles
    9.8L/100km = 24 MPG

    Summer mileage on my '13 Chevy 1500 5.3L is 16-16.5 MPG, like clockwork. That goes to hell in November when the cold sets in. Diesel made no sense whatsoever for me as I mostly drive it to work and back. It sees some trailer work, and I use it for hauling light loads in the bed all the time. I've seen it get close to 20 MPG on the highway empty, but loaded up with gear (chainsaws? Lol) it typically turns in 18-19mpg depending on Terrain.

    Im still leery of the small displacement/forced induction idea In a full size truck. It could work well for those that rarely tow/haul near capacity and don't keep the vehicle more than 5-6 years. I just can't see them out-working/out-lasting a typical V8 in the same size chassis. We shall see.

    Are y'all using the onboard mpg calculator when quoting mpg?? Those things are notoriously high!! I reset mine on the sequoia a few tanks ago its just now down to 17.3 mpg avg. All the tanks for the last few fill ups have averaged around 15.4mpg hand calculated.

    I just find some of these figures hard to swallow.

    The one in my Chevy is pretty dang close Clem. But you can't check it with 20 miles on the tank. Run a whole tank through and its right on.

    I've had a few trucks that read correct and some that don't. My 07 5.9 cummins was within .2-.3 every time. This 11 is .5 high usually.

    I couldn't have said it better MM. That is why I went with the 5.0 liter V8 in my F-150. Every turbo vehicle I had ended up with expen$ive repairs eventually.

    Turbo tech has come a long way in the past few years. The turbos on the ecoboosts have been thoroughly abused and tested for years before ford released them to the public. They did the same with aluminum bodies on f150s with unknowing commercial customers doing real time durability tests. The ecoboost motors have been in consumer hands for a a few years now, and have been doing very well.

    I agree, more time will tell, but if I were in the position to buy a new truck, I'd buy an ecoboost, probably the smaller one over the 5.0, based on all I've read and seen. Then again, if I were to buy a new truck today, it'd be a raptor with the 6.2 v8, because I wouldn't be able to wait until the next raptor with the ecoboost and 10 SPD auto on the aluminum 2017 raptor.

    I agree they are a little off, sometimes high and sometimes low on mine but on average it's pretty dang close. I got used to keeping a log book for my work truck so I've had a log book in this truck from day 1. I record the data above as well as actual mileage, fuel used, cost of fuel and total cost. I think I have every receipt still too.

    I'd like to add that because sometimes my truck will sit for a week or two while I'm away for work, I only run high test ethanol free gas in my truck. Even in the winter I may only fill it once or twice a month so I don't need the fuel separating while it sits. It says in the manual that you can run 87 octane but you will notice improved mileage and performance by running 91. You do! My cousin goes back and forth in his ecoboost and he notices a difference when he runs high test. I do pay a little more per tank but it's a wash when I get increased mileage (overall, the $/mile is about the same) as well as the peace of mind with ethanol free. I also get no where near that kind of mileage in the winter when there are many minutes spent idling to warm, occasional 4x4 usage , extra fuel additives like gas line antifreeze (that doesn't burn like fuel) and spinning tires in snow and ice.

    Also, I reset Trip A every time I fill up but I have never reset the Trip B from day 1 so I have a life of vehicle average mileage. This includes everything from RV and trailer towing, 4x4 usage, ATV and wood hauling, city and highway, summer and winter for the past 3 years and about 60K miles. Overall it sitting at about 17 MPG. This also means I see the number of gal used over three years too:bug:

    I agree Horkn about the technology improvements. However, the added complexity with turbos and the associated heat related wear and tear, there is simply more to go wrong long term. If I was concerned with hole shot times away from the stop light, I would have picked the Ecoboost as it would smoke my 5.0. I simply don't care about that anymore. The minimal mileage increase reported for the EB is insignificant for me as well.
    Not trying to change anyone's mind, it's just what works for me. Plus there is still some kid in me; I love how my V8 sounds if I need to stomp on it :thumbs:.

    I drove a new Suburban home from Philly last night and I thought it was pretty amazing compared to my current truck or previous Suburbans. Now granted I drove it like the rental it was but it handled and braked awesome at speed in rush hour traffic then flew when it opened up a bit more when I got up into the Poconos. And it was as comfortable as a Cadillac. For the 95% drive around/5% fish/ski occasional load of local wood you describe, I'd consider picking up one of the last Avalanches. Push button 2WD/AWD/4WD and heated leather seats are a nice combination for that lifestyle. Beats driving/riding a truck if you don't need one:whistle:

    I have a 2013 6.7 powerstroke that is equipped with all of the emissions stuff. So far, no complaints after a year and 25,000 miles. I used to drive the older 7.3 ps and 5.9 cummins trucks years ago. This 6.7 stock with emissions will run circles around both of them modded.

    I can believe that..my 05 with a 6.0L w/ edge tuner set on towing mode was regularly loaded to 25,000 and occasionally when i had the dozer/backhoe behind it was pushing 35k. It held 70mph on the interstate like that. My current 01 with a ts performance chip set on 100hp has to shift out of overdrive only grossing 20000lbs. 4.10 gears, auto 4" straight exhaust, intake system on both trucks. I like the power they get out of the newer trucks but all the emissions crap is expensive to replace and it is awful cramped under the hood to work on. only experience i have with a 6.7 is riding in my buddies and was great running truck but something happened to the motor pretty early in its life(100-150k miles) and he bought a salvage truck with low miles to swap motor/tranny/transfer into his because that was cheaper than fixing the motor. he still likes it since all he uses it for is towing and it is so much better than the old 7.3 he had but that 7.3 made it to 300k miles with only a cam sensor and oil changes. his 7.3 rollback made it to 500k with only cam sensor, water pump, and oil changes. i doubt the new stuff will be able to do that.

    Never been a dodge fan, Government Motors of China- not an option. I drive Fords, oh, there's been some of those others hanging out at the homestead- or the stealership ( repairs I can't do). Guess it don't matter much they all got their quirks. They all cost too much nowdays. Fords have been decent for me - a 49, 56, 58,64,75, 84( oil burner 1t), pair of 99 ( 1/2t and 1t- still have 1t), 05 3/4t ( except for the 99 1/2t all were bought used and I had it for 13 years)

    No doubt. At the first sign of trouble I'm deleting everything and opening it up.. A guy I work with did it and it's mean.. Only time will tell but the second generation 6.7 seems to be the the best thing since the 7.3 for ford. The 6.0 had issues that could be cured but the 6.4 was junk..

    I hear ya! There's a reason I waited and searched to find my 4.2 v8 Audi allroad vs the he easier to find 2.7t twin turbo v6 allroad that was the standard motor. The v8 is timing chain, no timing belt to replace (big $$ on these), no turbos which are 3k for the pair parts alone if one goes, and doesn't require premium fuel as the twin turbo does. It's also 40 valves,5 per cylinder, sound sweet.

    The SUVs and the Avalanche got all the extra suspension goodies. GM trucks were always the nicest driving trucks anyways.

    I hope he still has it but last I knew he was driving a '01-'07 era 2500HD with a 8.1L big-block. The last true HD gas engine in pickups.
