short block is $4000 roughly....$5500 from ford. Timing components run $800 for all ford parts except the phasers(AM). $500 labor. the job calls for something like 12hrs labor on flat rate

Times those all by 2 for Long Island prices. We (Nassau and Suffolk county's on Long Island) were just given the dubious annual 1st place award for most expensive place to live in the country 2 weeks ago~! THANKS!!

that is what i was talking about for blowing the plug problem out of proportion. there are literally millions of those engines out and i would bet its around a 2% failure rate on plug threads. the dealer we do all the work for sells 20 to 25 f series trucks a month. i bought my tool for repairing the plugs 6-8 yrs ago and am still using the inserts that came with it. most mechanics that have experience with the 3V engines can give them a tuneup in under 2 hrs. plugs cost $12 each so $300. proper tools makes it a quick job. http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=484 http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/kd-tools-9-16-x-6-magnetic-swivel-spark-plug-socket-3938/9010410-P?cm_mmc=ACQ-_-Google-_-Enhanced-_-Dynamic&jadid=61601342245&jap=1o2&jkId=gpt:pt_134962&js=1&jsid=34339&jt=1&jr=http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/kd-tools-9-16-x-6-magnetic-swivel-spark-plug-socket-3938/9010410-P?cm_mmc=ACQ-_-Google-_-Enhanced-_-Dynamic#utm_source=acq&utm_medium=google&utm_campaign=enhanced&utm_content=dynamic none of this really matters though as the new trucks are totally different and i have not gotten the chance to work on them.

Rock auto and work out a deal with your local ford dealer. we get a discount on all the ford parts plus another 2% off for ordering online.

I do agree the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So all the problem motors you hear trashed on the net. The good ones with 3000,000 trouble free miles you dont hear about , I do agree.

    "Rock auto" ??

The dealers on LI don't even understand the phrase "work out a deal"! No such thing. Your lucky if they answer the phone.

Rock auto.com has great prices on car parts!! Their shipping kills many of my purchases but when I order lots of stuff I buy from them. I can find many 30-40% off online coded from advance e so I use them for single purchases usually.

Advance and autozone wont match Rockauto prices but they will try to come close on alot of parts.

I personally would rather set a s10, sonoma, blazer, bravada on fire than work on them and have seen very few come through that dealer that didnt need a motor or transmission but my buddy has one with 300k on it and only thing they have done to it is a tune up at 200k.

If you were talking about the s10 reference to me, although I do own a s15 jimmy thats headed to the scrap yard. My earlier reference was about my k10, a 1980 1/2 chevy 4wd truck.

I had an S10 Jimmy, sold it with 190k on it, running perfect and never had a single issue with that truck. 2 weeks after selling it, the guy brought it to Florida and it burned completely to ground on the interstate in FL!! He said the guy next to him was beeping horn and screaming and pointing so he pulled over and when he got out the hole truck went up in flames..... He got out just in time! Glad I sold that one! ;)

Wood hauler is an 01 F250 6.8L V-10. 217,500 miles and runs great. Tranny was replaced before I got it so all I've done was plugs and coils. Had 2 coils go out so replaced them all using EBay units that were around $130 for all 10. It has some broken exhaust studs but have not done anything with it yet. Oh, but the 9MPG makes it all worth it.
Work van is 06 E350 5.4L 2 valve. Replaced tranny at 207,000 and 1 coil. At the time of the tranny I replaced all the plugs and coils for a tuneup. 232,500 miles on it now, runs great and uses about 1 quart oil in 5K using full synthetic NAPA oil.
As far as replacing your truck, get what fits you best. I think they will all run a ton of miles and give great service.

I have seen too many Chrysler Products have transmission failures, my parents 300C with only 80K miles & 2001 Ram 1500 included. I would go with a Chevy or Ford and if you are gonna haul wood go 3/4 ton.

I should add that your new truck should be really pretty, with big shiny wheels, with a wing on the back and goes really fast with a big engine.

    Huh?

I just want something that has 4 wd (to go on beach and snow), and get decent gas mileage. That's REALLY not asking for much! But un-believably in 2015, it's seems it's not possible!

Wings are for planes, they look overkill-goofy on cars and trucks, unless of course you have a tuner car that lights up like a pinball machine and sounds like a food processor, then you are the coolest thing on the block.
