I just spent the last three hours bucking a bunch of honey locust. Didn’t look anything like that. how much of this mystery wood do you have?
I judged my guess from the first image of the bark. Yeah, the growth rings are a bit "well spaced" for oak though.
The grain pattern looks like maple in that first picture. I don't think I'm seeing medullary rays on the end grain.
I think I only have 1 more piece left. I had to dig through the pile pretty good to find a full load for the stove. Funny, my youngest son came down from his room (2nd floor), said "Dad, why is it so hot in here?" that was when I realized what I had put in the wood burner. It was only 65F in his room. But my kids have the worst rooms in the house, single pane windows, 2 inches of insulation in the attic. It's gets cold up there.
No idea in the wood idea, but I do burn a lot of Cottonwood and ever year when I move up to ash or maple I’m surprised at how much hotter it gets in the house. I jumped the gun tonight and I’m sweating bullets just watching TV, about time to open the windows!!
I will eventually be bringing the wood stove up to the main floor of my house. It's not a difficult job. The chimney will just get shorter at the bottom. But, I will have to cut a new hole in the side of my house.
I meant to add some insulation to the attic. Kids deserve better than that amount of insulation in that attic.
I remember my late father telling stories of when he was a kid in the depression. Went to bed with a hot water bottle for warmth and it would be on the floor frozen in the morning. Times were tough.
