I chatted with her yesterday after an offer of 9 bucks an hour and all the beer she could drink. She counter with 9 an hour and all the beer her MOM can drink.

I balked at that, stating her mother's may be able to throw 'em down beyond my budget. Non of it is true, i am always trying to get a shock response out of them.

She countered no beer? 15 an hour! I think i will start at 9 and as she becomes handier, will move up.

First task will be emptying the ash of my OWB. Realized i havent done that yet.

I checked in to find out if there was a decision on the hourly pay but instead learned about boobs. Yes, both the human idiots and the useless ones on boars  :picard:

Anyway I've unfortunately had to hire help here and there for a few years now, I ended up pricing by the task/job completion and not by thehour, as one or two would take forever to do something simple but a couple others finished the job while taking better care of what needed to be done in 1/2 the time, seemed fair to me anyway.

After reading what young people are expecting for pay without any experience, I find myself remembering my first job working on a dauiry farm during the summer helping with haying. I got a dollar a day and thought I was rich. They did feed me good.

Task price, not an hourly rate.

Figure out how long it would take to do X (task) and times it by Y ( the rate you want to pay). If mowing the pasture takes 3 hours and you want to pay $10/hr offer the job for $30. If the helper knocks it out in 2-2.5 hours then they just made a higher hourly rate. If it takes 4 hours then they left money on the table.

It encourages hustle and time management, not moping around and running up the clock.

(For the record is my lawn company was mowing your pasture it would be by the acre. I figure out how long it would take me to mow 1 acre and times it by my hourly rate plus expenses.)

She will do well. Has her black belt already, and tormented her liberal 8th grade teachers this year, on all manner of topics. Told one "you teach me how to think, don't try to tell me what to think" . One of those right wingers too bright for them to mold.
She is Chinese descent, but hard headed Hoosier German is ingrained.

Well my eager helper arrived today. First chore was to clean the ash out of the boiler. We next went to a fallen tree in the pasture. She hadn’t been around a chain saw before, and stayed clear of it. Very conscientious about wearing hearing protection.
Had her do some marking the cutting points and worked the log jack a bit. I explained about moisture content adding to weight, and different things about forestry as they came up.
She was intrigued when an ant colony was found inside.

Richelle worked four hours straight and negotiated her hourly rate up a buck per.
She doesn’t like bugs at all and was upset to find two ticks on her after she got home. Need to wear rubber boots next time. Overall, an enjoyable afternoon spent with an accomplished and focused young person.
