I'll start. I am a carpenter. Primarily a rough framer, but we do trim, cabinets, hardwood, decks, etc. Been doing it 18years. It's really a good trade to know right now. I could quit my job and have 5 more before I got home. Not many of us left after the housing bubble burst. The only weekdays off I get are the ones I make happen. Maybe only 3-5 days a year where there is no job to do. Our crew is well respected in this trade. People wait for our schedule just to have us do the job whenever possible. It would seem that my life revolves around wood.
Automotive Technician. Spent almost 18 years at the local Buick dealership until they sold the franchise to the competitor and closed the doors. Currently turning wrenches for the United States Postal Service.
Maintenance Mechanic working in an aerospace factory applying thermal barrier coatings to the turbine airfoils of jet engines. The machines are as big as my house and much more of a PITA. Of course, I have been known to fix a mower or a saw every once in a while. That stems from my previous stint in the outdoor power equipment industry. I'm a factory certified John Deere tech (electrical and hydraulics among a few other areas) for lawn and garden equipment, which includes tractors up to roughly 100HP.
I'm a 2 jobaholic. During the day I'm a carpenter, by night I work for the commonwealth. By day since high school, so 29 years and by night for 25. My day job I work for 2 crews, mostly residential construction but have snuck in quite a few commercial jobs along the way. We have an architect that we do commercial work for, mostly churches and banks. The second crew is all residential and commercial wood frames.
You're not the only one. My "day" job is my small-engine shop here @ home, I also weekend on a greens crew for a private golf course during the season. Then I go to work at the plant at night to pay the bills.
exactly! my night job pays so so but gives me all the benefits, the days jobs pays the rest. I like your summer gig
Full time IT Guy / Industrial Engineer. Depends on the day. Supply chain & logistics focused. Part time beer drinker. Past jobs have included farming (hogs, beef, and row crops), commercial and residential landscape crew, and construction (residential framing and remodels).
That pretty much sums it up. It would have to be driven over a cliff to be scrapped. Just completed 3 frame replacements only 2 to go. For now...
My very good friend asked me if I would be interested in putting a frame under his 2000 Silverado. I told him he was nuggin' futz.
I do physical and occupational therapy for two group homes for the intellectually and physically disabled. On the weekend and holidays I have been going and and helping them with the meds and meals and such. No pictures, not even of my office, as it would be a HIPPA violation.
I deliver pizza. And some other stuff, to some of your other favorite quick-service restaurants. After unloading a 40000+lbs of product with a two-wheeler, let's just say I don't cut firewood for the exercise.
I don't do a lot of anything now. RN by trade. Maj. USA ret. also retired my the Veterans Adm. where I ran a geriatric psychiatric unit. Now do some per diem work for a local hospital. I monitor and trouble shoot vital signs of clients with congestive heart failure. It's a Telahealth program with teaching and early intervention to keep clients from needing to be hospitalized. Lucky for me, what I do now, I do from home.
Wow you 2+ jobbers must have a ton of energy. After driving an hour each way and 9 hours framing I'm toast for the night. Sunday is wood day. Find some time to spend with the little lady in between. With a little sleep time added in that pretty much fills my 8 day week.
