I have the 22 ton BBS DHT (Which they have replaced with the 25 ton). They both have the same Kohler 6.5 engine and the exact same frame, and most other components. The difference is the 22 ton has a 13 gpm pump & a 4" cylinder on the piston. The 25 ton has a 15 gmp pump and a 4.5" cylinder. The 22 ton cycle time is also slightly faster.

My 22 ton has split everything I have put on it including several types of oaks, maples, elms, beech, and various fruit woods. The engine starts on the first or second pull each time (even after sitting all winter).

The only caution is that the big box store version is not exactly the same as DHT's regular splitters. The two differences I've seen are that you cannot put a 4-way head on the bbs version and it uses a special log catcher which is not usually in stock and must be ordered.

Based on the specifications and photos the TSC 25-ton country line appears to be a re-branded Dirty Hands Tools bbs 25-ton splitter.

I hear you. He's only a few miles away and doesn't burn as much as I do though. We've known each other a long time and works on all my bikes. I can't imagine this being the thing that jacks us up.

Me & my best friend split the cost of a splitter about 5 yrs or so ago.
Other than the inconvenience of not always having it whenever you want to get to splitting, it's worked out fine.

Thanks man. Watching it now. I don't think $580 is realistic but we'll see. :)

That would have been more than I would have put on it...especially when that TSC unit is at $799 sale price

Someone got it for $860. I pushed it a bit but in the end remembered your(pl) advice. In the last seconds I was ramping it up just to make the winner pay more. That's how I'm goin' down.

Check different stores...it does show $899 here now, but came up $799 for me yesterday. Same deal when a couple people here bought them recently, they show different prices different places. HD and Lowes do that too...seem to have higher prices near more populated and/or wealthier areas.

I'll take a look. I'm in 18944 if you see anything. I thought TSC might be more reliable for service than big box.

Say if I choose "pick up in store" and change stores should it reflect a different price or do I have to change "my store". I think I'm too close to Philly and NY to get a the $799.

Yeah if you are close to big cities that will probably affect it. I checked the 10 stores that came up as close to your zip code, they all come up as 899.
Check the 44691 zip code store, see if it comes up $799 for you too...

Just for the laugh, have any of you checked Craigslist in your area? I usually get a lot of stuff on there...

I just did. No log splitters but I now play bass in a samba band, am getting 3 tons of "pea gravel" delivered somewhere and have a date with someone called Madame Natasha tonight.:faint:
